The main device on which data of your computer is stored is a hard disk, or a hard drive. Providing the direct location of data on the hard drive depends on its storage structure of files or directories. Often, if the system crashes or interferes with its operation, files are damaged, without which some programs and applications will not work correctly or will not work at all. In this case, you need to restore the file system responsible for the correct operation in general.

When the operating system boots, the most common failures are the system registry files, corruption, or the complete removal of important, if not the main, files of the system. This happens in the event that:

1. The installation of faulty or incompatible services, drivers, removal of services necessary for proper operation or their damage was made.
2. The system files have been deleted.
3. The hard disk is out of order.
4. Wrong data were created in the registry.
5. Access to the% systemroot% folder is restricted, or the rights are incorrectly set.

Restoring the file system can be performed using the standard tools included in the distribution of the operating system, as well as with the help of third-party utilities. It's about regular programs that do not require additional purchases or downloads.

For Windows 2000, you must have a disaster recovery disk. To do this, go to the menu "start" and then go along the chain: all programs, standard, utility programs, and go to the archiving of data. We press "emergency recovery of disks". Next, following the instructions, insert a formatted blank diskette, and put a dummy in the item with the inscription "register to archive to the recovery folder." As a result, there will be three files on the floppy disk: config.nt, autoexec.nt, setup.log. The% systemroot% directory will already contain the Repair folder with copies of the files that are backed up in the registry.

For XP OS, you can use the automatic recovery system (ASR). This is a more powerful tool, similar to ERD. What is good about this remedy? It enables the use of high-capacity media, for example, CD-R / RW, allowing you to create a copy of the entire operating system.

Now start the recovery of the Windows 2000 file system using the emergency recovery disk.

1. Start the installation;
2. Correction of the damaged configuration;
3. Exit without changes.

First you need to fix the system. You can do this through disaster recovery and through the console. We fix it via the emergency restoration in the manual mode. So calm, you control everything. Next, set the mode of operation. They are, as a rule, three:

1. Analysis (checked and, if necessary, correct important files of the system).
2. Checking the system files (fixing files in the root directory)
3. Verification and analysis of the boot sector.

After selecting the desired item, click the "Continue" button. If you have two Windows 2000 systems, for example, English and Russian versions, you must specify the Repair directory, and apply the required rescue recovery disk.
