Exactly one year ago the company UZ Daewoo decided to create a new budget car, which would combine all the positive qualities of the sedan and at the same time was available to ordinary citizens of the CIS. So, in 2013, in the "Uz-Daewoo" began to produce a new Daewoo Gentra. Photo and description of this budget car in our review.

About the platform

Designers UZ Daewoo did not puzzle over the creation of an entirely new frame and body for the car and borrowed a platform from the car "Chevrolet Lachetti." However, despite the numerous responses of drivers, which emphasized the absolute similarity of the Noviky with the Lacetti, the Gentra sedan has a large number of differences, among which it should be emphasized:

  1. New body design. This includes a different design and shape of the front of the car, including the headlights and front bumper.

  2. A new motor. The new "Daewoo Gentra" instead of used on the "Lachetti" 1.4 and 1.6-liter power plants is equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine.

Design of the car "Daewoo Gentra"

Feedback from owners, as we have already noted, noted many similarities with the design of its predecessor, "Chevrolet Lacetti." Yes this is true. If you compare the back and side of the body Lacetti with a new sedan, "Daewoo Gentra", the photos will be uniquely similar. The rear brake lights are made like a "copy". The side part remained unchanged - all the same thick moldings on the doors, painted in body color, muscular wheel arches and a large windshield. However, due to small changes in the field of headlights, headlights, bonnet and front bumper, the current "Uzbek" no longer looks like his Korean ancestor.

And now more in detail about the sedan "Daewoo Gentra". The owners' comments are first of all noted by the presence of new teardrop headlamps in the front of the car, which appear to have become the hallmark of the new sedan. Unlike the Chevrolet Lacetti, which was mass-produced in three versions (it was a hatchback, a sedan and a station wagon), the new Uzbek car has only one body variant - the sedan. However, its design was greatly altered. Therefore, a full-fledged sedan "Gentru" can not be called. In fact, the novelty has a body mixed between sedan and station wagon, but according to the documents it is qualified only as the first option.

Interior

The new Daewoo Gentra (photo of the cabin look a little lower) inside looks almost the same as its soplatformennik "Chevrolet Lacetti". And unlike the design, almost no changes were made to the interior. This is evidenced by bright plastic inserts "under the tree", and indeed, the entire architecture of the front panel of the car. But this is not all features of the Daewoo Gentra sedan. Reviews of motorists note the presence in the cabin of soft high-quality plastic, and this is for budget machines of class "C" is just a rarity. Also, chic interior is given by high-quality wooden inserts and a soft overlay on the front panel.

But not everything is so smooth and attractive at first sight. There are many drawbacks to the "Daewoo Gentra". The steering wheel has no thickenings and is comfortable in the hands. But it's not yet necessary to talk about the perfection of the "Daewoo Gentra" sedan's designers. Test drive showed that the comfort of management novelty is far inferior to its "classmates." Upset drivers and noise insulation - on the road you can hear everything that happens with the engine. The instrument panel is simple and straightforward, without any "bells and whistles" and other additional functions. The visibility inside is excellent. In addition, "Gentra" has large rear-view mirrors, so that the driver can fully control the situation on the road and see what happens in front, on the sides and behind the car.

As for the seats in the car "Daewoo Gentra", the owners' feedback notes a number of shortcomings in the shape and design of the driver's seat. To be specific, the seats of the novelty are very flat and short. However, among the pros it should be noted the wide adjustment range of the height of the chair and the inclination of the back. By the way, in top-end trim levels, the driver's seat has even a lumbar adjustment.

And how are things with the second half of the seats? The rear row of seats is very low, but there is enough free space for passengers. And thanks to the special arrangement of the ceiling, even the highest basketball player can ride inside comfortably - there is almost no such space in the cars of the budget class.

We are moving into the trunk. And then we are waiting for a surprise. The total volume of the trunk is only 405 liters. That is, you can not put large baggage here. For comparison, the total volume of the luggage compartment at Daewoo Nexia is 510 liters. The hinges holding the lid are not very high-quality, besides they take up a lot of space inside the compartment.

Under the raised floor there is space for the spare wheel. A special hook is attached to the panel to raise the disc and fix it on the trunk lid.

Unfortunately, the new Uzbek sedan has only one power unit in its engine line. It is a 4-cylinder 16-valve petrol unit with a linear arrangement of cylinders with a volume of 1.5 liters and a capacity of 105 horsepower. The peak of its torque at 4000 rpm is 139 Nm. The engine in terms of the level of toxicity of exhausts meets the requirements of the Euro-5 standard. Among the shortcomings of the motor car owners note a long warm-up, and this is a big drawback for the inhabitants of the northern latitudes of Russia.

As for the gearbox, the new "Daewoo Gentra" is equipped with one automatic transmission for six stages and one mechanical transmission for 5 speeds. The latter will be available in both base and top-end trim levels. Sedan Daewoo Gentra machine has a not very acceptable "appetite" - from 8.5 to 9.5 liters (depending on the chosen PPC) by 100 kilometers in a mixed mode. The engine can run both on the 95th and 92nd gasoline, which is important for motorists of the CIS countries (the car will be easier to "dress" fuel, not clogging the system). By the way, the mechanical gearbox, which is now installed on the "Gentru", was previously supplied with Chevrolet Cobalt. But as the reviews say, such a mechanical transmission has one big drawback - a fuzzy gear shift. But let's hope that soon the engineers of UZ Daewoo will fix this shortcoming.

Despite the fact that Daewoo Gentra is equipped with the same power unit and gearbox as its Chevrolet Cobalt colleague, the electronic control unit, according to Uzbek designers, will have several other settings. Also, the computer "Gentry" is capable of self-training.

Particular attention deserves a road clearance. Distance from the bottom to the asphalt from the "Daewoo Genretta" is simply scanty - 14 centimeters. With such a clearance on the patency of the car can not speak. And if you take into account also the fact that at full load the ground clearance will decrease by several millimeters, the "Gentra" can only travel on German autobahns, because the driver can not do without additional protection of the crankcase.

The latter feature deserves special attention - when the car moves smart electronics itself closes the rear locks, and the risk that someone falls on the road will be ruled out altogether.

And back to the body again. His "Daewoo Gentra" completely inherited from "Lachetty", as evidenced by the results of crash tests (4 points out of 5 possible). Note also that the thickness of the power elements of the body of the car is 0.8 millimeters - all world manufacturers try to adhere to such parameters. But whether this body will stay in 5-10 years, or rot in the 3rd year of operation (as the "Nexia" of the Uzbek assembly), time will tell. However, "Gentra" has so far only prospects for a successful debut, although in the first months of the sale, no excitement among motorists was noticed.

Which has Daewoo Gentra technical characteristics, we have already considered, now we turn to the issue of purchase. In the Russian market, the buyer will be offered several car configurations:

The top equipment will include fifteen-inch alloy wheels, an anti-lock wheel system, an armrest for the rear row of seats, a wood-trimmed interior, a steering column for the flight, heated front driver's and passenger seats, a sunroof and a full electric package.

Price list

As for the cost, the initial price for the new Daewoo Gentra sedan on the Russian market starts from a mark of 414 thousand rubles. Optionally, the buyer can order an automatic transmission. However, for this pleasure will have to pay on top of 50 thousand rubles. The maximum equipment will cost about 490 thousand rubles. This includes a standard petrol engine of 1.5 liters and a five-speed transmission. A car in performance with six-speed "automatic" will be available to Russians at a price of 542 thousand rubles. As you can see, the price of the Daewoo Gentra sedan is quite democratic, especially considering what level of equipment is included in the basic configuration.

Conclusion

The Daewoo Gentra passenger car is, in fact, a converted Chevrolet Lacetti (we saw this in our review), but this product is not Korean, but Uzbek. The obvious advantages of this car, of course, is the cost, which starts with a mark of 400 thousand rubles. Hardly for such a price in the Russian market, you can find something suitable, and if you consider that this is a full-fledged sedan with air conditioning and an electric package in the basic configuration, then "Gentre" can be forgiven a lot. And it is not necessary to criticize this car for such money, as some motorists do. To acquire it or not is a private matter for everyone. However, in any case, the car is worth its money.
