Features of US electoral legislation

In America, the president is not elected in the same way as in Russia or, for example, in Ukraine. The procedure for a stranger looks rather strange. Instead of asking the people which of the candidates like him more, a rather complicated action is started in two stages. In each of the US states there is an organ called the Legislative Assembly. Its members should once in about four years elect some kind of trusted people in an amount corresponding to the number of delegates representing this subject of the federal state in Congress. How they will do this, the Legislative Assembly, by law, can decide for itself, but, according to the established practice, all citizens of the state who have the right to vote can vote for them. It is interesting to determine the date of the vote: it takes place on the first Tuesday in November (for some reason it is specified that "after the first Monday", perhaps because of fear that it will come suddenly right after Sunday), in that year, the number of which is divided into four without a remainder . These electors (they are now 538) and decide who will become president. So it was in 2008, and already in January, Obama was elected. The term of government reports from the moment of taking the oath and inauguration. Since the time of Lincoln, this procedure takes place on January 20. It is also interesting that not only the president is elected, but also the vice-president, who in case of which assumes the fullness of power. Internal problems

The new US president inherited from his predecessor Bush Jr. many unresolved problems. The whole world condemned the practice of imprisoning prisoners on the island of Cuba in Guantanamo, where it was allegedly possible not to comply with American laws and legal norms. In fact, this "fig leaf" was formally covered with a gross violation of not only legal, but also simple human concepts of justice. The United States continued to discriminate against the population by sex, race and other characteristics. The issue of abortion was also not resolved, the energy use standards differed in blurriness. The federal economy was far from encouraging. Health care was in need of reform.

Obama promised to solve these internal problems. The term of government began uneasy, for the first hundred days it was necessary to report to the people and voters.

Foreign policy

Despite a brilliantly military victory, Iraq has not ceased to be a problem, moreover, the further, the worse things were there. A considerable contingent of troops should be supplied with all necessary, this entailed serious costs, and the death of the soldiers caused discontent. The situation in Afghanistan was no better. At the same time, the new president did not intend to abandon the formulation of the "irreplaceable power" that was formed in the nineties. The entire term of Obama's administration was accompanied by ranting about the "exclusivity" and "special role" of the United States, the country's vital interests extended to the entire white world - from the Arctic to Antarctica, along all meridians and parallels.

How did Obama become president?

The fact that the US president was finally a black citizen, nothing strange there. America is a country inhabited by a variety of ethnic groups and races, all citizens are equal before the law, including Barak Hussein Obama, whose term began in 2009 and should be completed in 2016. The question is, what else, besides the color of the skin, did he stand out among other candidates. After reading his biography, everyone can make sure that he graduated from Columbia University, then the School of Law at Harvard, his mother was white. He worked as an editor of the legal review, then a law professor in Chicago, then was elected to the Illinois senate. In 2000, he made the first and unsuccessful attempt to become a member of the House of Representatives, then a US senator (successfully). Participated in writing different laws. And that's all. He became the President of the country, considered the world economic and military leader. The first, and then the second term of Obama's rule was not marked by any breakthroughs in foreign or domestic policy. The usual routine struggle for world hegemony. The second term of office, which began in 2012, was the result of the victory over Republican Romney, an even weaker candidate, with the difference in electoral votes less than in the case of McCain (less than four percent).

Military successes

The failed attempt to change the ruling regime in the Syrian Arab Republic has become a kind of indicator of Russia's growing influence in the international arena. Support for Ukrainian democracy

So, the overall situation is as follows: Obama's second term expires, and numerous problems have not been resolved. Health care reform has been unsuccessful, the war in the Middle East continues, and Europe largely depends on Russian gas. The last circumstance seemed to the American president reparable. He becomes a "lame duck", and many of his undertakings have a vague prospect of implementation. However, what some people have approved, others, in principle, can be canceled.

How to cancel the 22nd Amendment?

Some American presidents have already considered the abolition of this restrictive legislative norm . It promises to be not very problematic, because if three-quarters of the states ratify this "amendment of the amendment," it will pass even before Obama's term ends. Representatives of the Republican Party play the leading role in 26 of the 50 constituent entities of the federal state, and one can count on the support of the democrats.

Will Obama go for a third term?

In 2009, despite the bellicose rhetoric characteristic of many of his speeches, Barack Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize. The prestige of this international recognition of merit in various fields of human activity is very doubtful, but the title of laureate still obliges much, albeit in advance. However, there is too little time left for making any fateful decisions. Obama's term ends soon. Will he try to stay in the White House for another four years?
