Phil Brazilian, or the Brazilian Mastiff: a description of the breed, nature, reviews

The fanatical devotion of this magnificent dog to its owner is legendary. In Brazil, there is even a saying: "Faithful, like a fillet!" - which fully reflects the uniqueness of the character of the animal. But not everyone knows the origin of one of the best examples of the canine race. So what kind of rock is so amazing and what is its peculiarity?

History

The origin of the breed of braziliero is not known for certain. However, there are several versions of the history of its appearance.

According to the first version, the breed was formed as a result of crossing a bulldog, an English mastiff and a bloodhound. This point of view has a rational grain and is not devoid of meaning. After all, some characteristic features of these three breeds are clearly visible both in the exterior and in the working qualities of the dog.

According to another version, their ancestors are the molosses, brought to Brazil by the Spanish and Portuguese conquistadors. As a result of the mixing of these dogs with local dogs, a breed of braziliero appeared.

Description

The official standard of the International Cynological Federation (FCI No. 225) clearly describes all the necessary parameters that determine the exterior, character and other properties of the breed of braziliero. According to this document, these dogs are typical Molossians with a strong bone and excellent proportions. The massive body does not interfere with the mobility of the animal. The standard specifies two important proportions:

  • The skull is longer than the muzzle;
  • The length of the body (the distance from the protruding bone of the chest to the pelvis) is 10% higher than the height at the withers.

The dog's head is massive, proportional to the body, the skull is wide. The stop is almost invisible. A drooping upper lip beautifully covers the lower one. Bite straight or scissor-shaped. The dog's eyes can be either medium-sized or large. The form is almond-shaped. Eye color varies from yellow to brown. Slightly drooping lower eyelids give the muzzle a sad and somewhat detached expression. Ears are large, hanging.

Size and weight
Height at withers (cm) Weight, kg)
The males 65-75 From 50
Bitches 60-70 From 40

The bones of the forelimbs are more powerful than the hind legs.

An important feature of the breed is the free skin of the animal, which forms a suspension on the neck and abdomen. The Brazilian fila is a dog with a thick and short coat. Color can be monophonic or tiger, white markings on the chest, paws and tail tip are allowed.

If there are any deviations from the standard in the dog's exterior or behavior, this is considered a disadvantage. The Brazilian fila with pronounced deviations is even subject to disqualification.

  • Short muzzle;
  • Small or high set ears;
  • Very light eye color;
  • Creases on the skull;
  • The bent back;
  • Narrow croup (posterior part of trunk);
  • Short step.

  • Small head;
  • Short upper lip;
  • Round or bulging eyes;
  • Straight or humpbacked back;

Temperament

You can talk endlessly about this beautiful dog. Special attention should be paid to the character of the Fila braziliero dogs. There is an opinion that the dogs of this breed are extremely aggressive and ferocious. In this statement there is a rational grain. Since in ancient times this dog was used to protect slaves, as well as to hunt predatory animals, the ability to attack it is laid in the genes.

In many countries, to purchase this animal without a special license, as a weapon, simply does not work. Of course, these dogs are extremely distrustful to strangers, but for no reason they never attack anyone. To provoke a dog to aggressive behavior can only the emergence of danger in relation to the host, whom she simply idolizes. The dog treats all members of the family very well and loves young children.

Characteristic diseases

The dog fila braziliro, despite its excellent health, still can have problems with the gastrointestinal tract. That's why it is not recommended to overfeed. It is better to give the dog food several times a day, but in small portions. In animals, in addition to problems with the intestines, there are ischemia and eye diseases.

Content

The dog feels great both in a city apartment and in a country house. Of course, in the country house the dogs will be more comfortable. If you plan to keep a dog in the apartment, you need to walk with him daily around the city to adapt it. Otherwise, it may happen that the animal, when meeting with strangers, suddenly shows aggression.

In the care of this breed there is nothing difficult. It is only necessary to monitor the condition of the skin and from time to time wipe the folds. The dog's eyes should also be washed with chamomile infusion or with tea.

Feeding

The diet of the dog should consist mainly of meat, as it is the main source of animal protein. Feed the dog and need vegetables, fruits, cereals, seafood, cottage cheese and chicken eggs. The dog should be given vitamins and minerals in tablets or in the form of drops. Cabbage, legumes, sausages and smoked products, pickled vegetables and various sweets should be completely excluded from the diet.

Reviews of the dog

Judging by the enthusiastic reviews of breeders and owners, the Brazilian mastiff is perhaps the most ideal watchdog, ready to defend its owner until the last drop of blood. The animal is endowed with an extremely strong innate guardian instinct, which is unlikely to be found in representatives of other breeds. It is generally believed that the training of this dog should not be done by a cynologist-trainer, but directly by the owner himself. With this approach during training, any aggression on the part of the dog is completely ruled out.

Breeders recommend to start this breed only to serious and responsible people. After all, in bad hands such a clever dog, distinguished by an excellent nervous system, can become a dangerous weapon. And for those people who genuinely love animals and are very serious about their upbringing and maintenance, Phil Brazilian will become a loyal and faithful friend, a reliable guard and a nanny for children.
