Petr Petrovich Luzhin, "Crime and Punishment": Characteristics of the Character

"What will happen if ...?" Is an invariable formula that permeates the entire work of FM Dostoyevsky. The work "Crime and Punishment" is no exception. It is based on the so-called theory of "blood in conscience", in other words: "the end justifies the means". One more, not so large-scale, but still theory, belonging to Luzhin - is exaggeratedly manifested - exaltation of oneself due to the weakness of others. Ideas are not new, but only Fyodor Mikhailovich "these moral dilemmas" leave the boundaries of the abstract and are decided in practice. So, what will happen if one "tiny criminals" is put on one scale, vanity and pride, and on another - a thousand good deeds? What will outweigh? Or, maybe, the imbalance will go away, and both bowls will rise to the same level? We argue in the article on the topic "Luzhin (" Crime and Punishment "): Characteristics of the character."

Purpose

In September 1865, a certain Mikhail Katkov, publisher of the Russkiy Vestnik, received a letter from Wiesbaden. The fact may not be particularly noteworthy, if not for one or even two ... But the first one is written by Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky, and the second one - he writes to him about the plan of his new novel. The idea of the work, according to the author himself, is in the "psychological report of one crime." In other words, there lived a young man, the most common one, a petty bourgeois by birth, who, due to unsuccessfully developing circumstances, is in extreme poverty. What to do? By frivolity, whether in the inner or shaky, but it succumbs to the "unfinished" ideas that are currently in the air, and decides to kill one old woman-interest woman. The old woman is wicked, vile, stupid and greedy to impropriety. Why should she live? Can it benefit anyone at least? The unequivocal answer "no" confuses the former student. He kills her and then robs, in order to make happy money for himself and all the suffering, and thereby fulfill the "humane duty to humanity". Well, here the name of the subsequent book - "Crime and Punishment", and the name of the main character - Rodion Raskolnikov is completely guessed. And now more about the novel itself, as well as about the character, in which a very telling surname is Luzhin Petr Petrovich.

First mention

So, Luzhin Peter Petrovich ... Who is he? What role did he play in the immortal novel of FM Dostoevsky? These and other questions will be answered in this article on the topic: "The novel by F. Dostoevsky" Crime and Punishment: the Image of Luzhin. "

Mr. Luzhin is one of the most unpleasant but famous heroes of the novel. Only one surname of what it costs! For the first time the reader is acquainted with him in absentia from the letter of Pulcheria Alexandrovna to Raskolnikova's son. She describes it positively: after all, he got involved in Dunya, Raskolnikov's younger sister, a beautiful, strong, self-assured, intelligent, noble girl, but without any dowry. Whatever one may say, the "feat" was performed by a man. And here, too, is the recent unpleasant incident: Duna began to speak a thin word, but, thank God, everything was settled. So his sincere intervention in the destiny of a poor girl is now a double feat, an act most noble and deserving of all praise. How did she see him? We continue the topic: "Luzhin," Crime and Punishment ": characterization of the character"

Portrait

Looks very "beautiful and solid face." The posture is "exaggeratedly strict", the clothes are dapper, mostly of "light and youthful" colors, despite the fact that her owner was hit not less than 45 years old. However, he looked younger: his face was fresh, his hair was only with gray hair, always carefully combed and curled by the hairdresser. In general, he produced the impression of a man of small education, but he was clever, reliable, secured, after all he served in two places and was going to open his business - a public law firm in St. Petersburg. But this is only externally. And every medal has a downside. She was also at Luzhin - mean, vain, mean, petty, cunning. It was just then that she saw the astute Raskolnikov, despite her mother's simple-hearted words.

Luzhin, "Crime and Punishment": Characteristics of the Character

Upon his arrival in St. Petersburg, Luzhin went to visit Raskolnikov as a groom. He crossed the threshold with a feeling of benefactor and with an undisguised desire to listen to as many sweet compliments as possible. An immense vanity, an extreme degree of self-confidence or, better to say, narcissism, played a bad joke with him. Having made his way "into people", having risen from insignificance, he was accustomed to admiring his appearance, his intelligence, his abilities, and it so happened that sometimes, alone, he looked at his face in the mirror. And he was extremely fond of money. Its own, strangers, obtained in labor or in other ways - it does not matter, the main thing is their very presence. After all, they helped him to rise above himself like and equate him with those who were above him. Well, the soil for matchmaking on the Dunya is the most "fertile" either. But there was something else ...

"Crime and Punishment": Luzhin's Theory

This is Luzhin's theory. For a long time already he dreamed of marrying, he saved all his money and waited. I did not expect love, not my soul, but a virgin, beautiful, educated and ... poor. On the word "poor", a special emphasis was placed in the deepest secrecy, since such a girl probably already experienced many misfortunes and troubles in her lifetime, was intimidated, and from there subsequently and infinitely grateful to her deliverer. She certainly "priniknet" in front of him, will be awed, obey in everything and be surprised only him. And then came the moment when everything coincided. There is a state, grandiose plans are planned for the conquest of St. Petersburg's highest light, and here Dunya is an ideal pretender to the role of a beautiful, intelligent, but poor bride, and in the future - a submissive and even obsequious wife of a successful husband. In his dreams he already dominated over her soul and body, and suddenly! No! .. He received a "resignation". And from whom? From the poor studentess, arrogant sucker - Rodion, who put him outside the threshold. He could not bear it. Stung, he collected all his indignation and immense anger and squeezed it into a ball-revenge. And he threw it not somewhere, but in the desired direction: Sonya Marmeladova was falsely accused of stealing money, they also thrown into her pocket.

FM Dostoevsky about Luzhin

This is what Luzhin sees as readers. "Crime and Punishment" (characterization of the character is presented in our review very briefly) is a complex work. His characters, theme and problems are not so simple, as it may seem at first glance. To get into the very essence, it's not enough just to read the book. It will be useful to get acquainted with the works of critics, and look through the notes of the author himself. A lot has been said in the rough materials about the novel of FM Dostoyevsky about Luzhin. Here is how the author describes the future character: he is incredibly vain, in love with himself to coquetry, petty extremely and has an irresistible passion for gossip. Among other things, he is also greedy, and in this he has a certain resemblance to the hero of Pushkin - the Mean Baron. Attitudes toward money are akin to idolatry, for everything is perishable, except for means. When a person has money, he is at the very top, he is master! To him, no one will ever show disrespect, disrespect or disdain. So, the money should be respected and praised ... Well, as the writer saw it from the beginning, so he appeared before the readers.
