On this day, the orthodox church honors the memory of St. Stephen Milyutin, the King of Serbia.

Stephen Milyutin for a long time - for 45 years - ruled Serbia. He received the succession in 1275 from his brother Dragutin, who refused the crown and became a recluse.

During the years of his reign, Stephen did much for his people and for Orthodoxy in general. He strengthened Serbia's position in the Balkans, annexed large-scale areas to the country and introduced Orthodoxy there. Under his leadership more than 40 holy temples, monasteries and houses were built, where they received pilgrims.

Stefan's reign lasted until his death in 1320. His holy relics are today in Sofia, in the cathedral of the Sofia Metropolis "Sveta Nedelya".
