Night vision sight for the smooth-bore shotgun IZH-27: "Daedalus 180", "Pulsar" (photo)

Night time has long been considered special at times. These hours are of great importance for people who are in combat or in some other extreme situation. Very often from the lips of some hero of an action movie or a thriller you can hear: "To be in time for darkness" or "Wait for night". These phrases are meaningless. In the dark it is easier to remain unnoticed, quietly commit an unseemly act and just as quietly leave a dangerous place. It was at night until recently that military attacks were made in the enemy's rear, diversions. The sight of the night vision for the smooth-bore gun appeared on the gun shelves completely changed the idea of the darkness and the "quiet" night watch.

What is the equipment?

A night vision sight for a smoothbore gun is a special device that looks like a monocular. Thanks to its installation on the gun, the shooter is given the opportunity to conduct aiming and observe at night. This device can be mounted on sports and hunting weapons and used for aiming at any distance.

The night vision sight for a smoothbore gun is equipped with high-speed optics, which increases several times the accuracy with the aiming.

A special sighting grid with a rangefinder scale increases the effectiveness of monocular. Equipped with such a grid night vision sight for a smoothbore gun (the photo below shows the design features of the device) provides the shooter with an opportunity to accurately determine the distance to the target.

Electron-optical converter (image intensifier): types

The electron-optical converter (EOP) installed in the device determines its main parameters.

Technical characteristics of electron-optical converters are indicated in the number of its generation. For today there are three levels of generations of image intensifiers:

  • Products of the first generation belong to the amateur class and have basic functional capabilities. They differ in sensitivity to light, they are characterized by blurring of the image along the edges (1). The use of the first-generation night sights, in which the protection from exposure and the resolution of the image intensifier is higher (1+), gives a high-quality image that is sharp throughout the field. These night sights are effective in urban operation.
  • The second-generation night sights (2), working in poor light conditions, are much better in range than their predecessors. Production (2+) is good in open areas, as it provides high shots.
  • In the manufacture of night sights of the third generation, a photocathode is installed in the kit for their electron-optical converters, the basis for which is gallium arsenide. Thanks to this, the devices can effectively work at the lowest possible illumination. At the cost of this product is considered the most expensive, but it gives an optimally clear and detailed image.

Main producers

The sight of night vision for a smoothbore gun is included in the line of Russian and foreign manufacturers. The device is manufactured by such companies as Yukon, Pulsar, Super Gen, Infratech, Daedalus, Modern Optical Technologies.

"Daedalus NV"

The Russian manufacturer "Daedalus NV" is making a device that is ideal in conditions of poor illumination - the sight of night vision for the smoothbore gun "Daedalus 180 HR". Pulsar: facilitating the alignment process

The process of adjusting the weapon can be greatly facilitated. This will be facilitated by the use of such a device as a night vision sight for the smooth-bore gun "Pulsar" (producer - Belarus), due to the Freeze function available in its design. The principle of its action is the ability of the sight to retain in its memory the image of the target after the shot. Thus, the fire takes place faster and better, using only one ammunition. This sight has three variants of parameters, it is equipped with separate sight marks for each type of weapon.

"Pulsar 870": design features

The sight of "Pulsar 870" is effective in cases where it is necessary to measure the distance to the target horizontally, the angle of its elevation and scan. These functions of the sight provide a built-in laser rangefinder, which works at a distance of up to 400 meters. The accuracy of measurements varies within 1 m.

The sight of "Pulsar 870" has a function that consumers call "a blockage of weapons." Its principle lies in the fact that when it deviates horizontally over five degrees, special arrows appear on the display, which indicate in which direction it is necessary to turn the weapon in order to eliminate the "blockage" that has appeared.

The shooter, if necessary, can use another function, which is equipped with a sight "Pulsar 870". This is an energy-saving shutdown function. It is performed automatically in those cases when the weapon is raised, lowered or diverted from the optical axis to the side. In such situations, the automatics are triggered after ten seconds.

Device Characteristics

The working lights with which the night vision sight for the Pulsar 870 smoothbore gun works range from 0.00001 to 30 000 lux (from a moonless night to a bright day).

The diameter of the lens is 5 cm. The image obtained from the CCD matrix in the video output mode is reflected on the OLED display (640x480 pixels). To do this, the sight is equipped with a special connector, which provides an image recording without an additional adapter, photo or video camera. The sensitivity of the matrix can be increased with the help of the automatic Sum Light function, which works in case of dimming.

The exit pupil has a removal, which is 67 mm. This prevents the possibility of injury when using a weapon with a high return value.

You can control the functions of the sight with a wireless remote control.

To operate the night vision sight "Pulsar 870" four AA batteries are needed. Also, its battery life can be increased by using external power sources EPS3 or EPS5.

The sight of the night vision "Pulsar 870" is characterized by insensitivity to external illumination.

For what kind of weapon is it meant?

"Pulsar 870" can be installed on pneumatic, smoothbore and rifled weapons. The device is adapted for use in large-caliber models, equipped with ammunition 9,3x64, 30x06.

In the sale of the product comes without a fastener. Brackets can be purchased separately. For this sight, the Weaver, Prism and side mount are suitable.

For the production of the sight a high-strength structural plastic is used. The device weighs no more than 1 kg, but it has impact resistance, which allows it to withstand the firing of cartridges with an energy of 6,000 Joules.

Advanced Model

A new model of the Belarusian manufacturer - the night vision sight for the smooth-bore gun "Pulsar 770A" - is one of the most perfect.

The device is a modernized version of the sight number 770. Changes touched the graphical interface, which in the 770A is equipped with thirteen interchangeable marks. The sighting grid has four color options (black, red, white, green). The main color is black. IR illumination has adjustable power and operates in a range invisible to the human eye.

The 770A uses an OLED display (640x480 pixels).

Criterias of choice

When buying a night vision device for weapons, many criteria should be taken into account. Most importantly, according to experts, pay attention to the generation to which the electron-optical converter belongs. Sights of the first generation EOP are mainly mounted on the model of rifles and rifles, having a caliber of 7.62 mm. For 12 gauge, you should buy devices above the first generation (1+). For products with image intensifier 2+, high strength and ability to withstand the high returns that occur when firing large-caliber weapons are characteristic.

Another important and decisive criterion in choosing an optical night device is its range. For the first-generation EOP sights, the optimal distance is 150 m, for the second - 600 m, and for the third - 800 m.
