Nelly Kim - the legend of the USSR

One of the famous Soviet gymnasts is Nelly Kim. Her biography is full of sports victories and awards. The name of the athlete was known far beyond the borders of the Soviet Union.

Biography

Olympic champion, multiple world champion, Europe and the USSR Nelli Kim was born on July 29, 1957 in the Tajik village of Shurab. Her father, Kim Vladimir, was a Sakhalin Korean, and his mother, Safina Alfiya, was a Tatar.

After the daughter's appearance, the family moved to Kazakhstan, where Nellie's parents live now. There, at the age of ten, the girl began to actively engage in gymnastics in a children's sports school. Its coach was Vladimir Baydin. After a while, Kim is the best gymnast in the country. Not stopping at what has been achieved, Nelly participates in all-Union and world competitions.

In the seventies the athlete was considered one of the best gymnasts in the world. Next to the names of Nadi Komaneci, Olga Korbut and Lyudmila Turishcheva stood the name of Nelly Kim. The gymnast became the champion of Europe, and then together with Olya and the champion of the Spartakiad of the Soviet Union. She continued to climb up, gaining new heights. At the Olympic Games in Moscow, Nelly met and married a Belarusian cyclist, Olympic champion Valery Movchanov. They had a daughter, who was also named Nelly. The second time married life also did not work out.

Now the gymnast lives in the United States in the city of Minneapolis. He often visits his parents in Kazakhstan. Her daughter studied at a university in Chicago.
