Modern communication networks and switching systems

Networks and communication systems are not just densely integrated into our lives. They penetrated so deeply into it that it is difficult for a common man to imagine the extent of their spread. What communication networks and switching systems function and provide data transmission in the modern world, what are their differences, what are the prospects for development? This is exactly what will be discussed later.

Types of communication

About what kinds of communication exist, without a hint even the younger schoolboy will answer. Nevertheless, let us denote them. So, at present mankind uses the following types of communication (I note that we only take into account the types that require the use of equipment and / or equipment, in other words, telecommunications):

  • Telephone (we mean wire telephone lines, fixed telephones).
  • Radio communication, incl. broadcasting.
  • Telegraph communication.
  • TV.
  • Satellite connection.

As for the technical support for the transmission of one or another type of information, this function is assumed by communication networks and switching systems. At the same time, communication networks are designed to support the transmission of information in one or another format. Function Switching networks - to provide communication between specific subscribers of the network. In other words, it is the switching system that ensures that when dialing a subscriber number, the technician will direct your call to him, rather than simply "throw" a call into the communication channel. It is the switches that connect computers or telephone subscribers between them and provide them with this channel for full use at all times of communication.

On the territory of our country, the complex of communication network and switching system develops in accordance with the state acts and the plan of the ARIA (all-connected communication network) of the CIS. The tasks of this network are to ensure maximum accessibility of all types of communication for citizens of the Commonwealth states. The basis of this network is large switching nodes operating in automatic mode and redirecting signals, and electronic computing centers, whose function is data collection and analysis. The main communication networks and switching systems that support the transfer of information to ARIA:

  • Automatic telephone channels.
  • Telegraph.
  • Networks that provide audio broadcasting.
  • Facsimile communication network.
  • Computer networks and data transmission networks.
  • Mobile communication systems.
  • Network of telecasting.
  • Intra-departmental communication networks.

The main components of the communication network are: switching systems, a large-scale network of channels (lines) through which data of different types are transferred, equipment that ensures reception and correct processing of incoming signals, staff that maintains operability and eliminates malfunctions on certain sections of communication lines.

What are the further prospects for the development of this direction? The Ministry of Communication plans to modernize the telephone network in such a way that its users can access all the capabilities of mobile systems - text and multimedia messages, the possibility of a video call. Much attention is paid to wireless technologies and alternative methods of communication (the beginning of that - 3G and 4G formats). The project of future communication even has a name - NGN. Moreover, some of its functions are already being tried in existing networks.
