Medication "Mesaton": instruction

Mesaton (drops for eyes) is a symptomatic drug. The drug has a pronounced stimulating effect on postsynaptic alpha 1 adrenergic receptors. When instilled (instillation) in the eye, it causes the pupil to dilate and contract in the smooth muscles of the arterioles of the conjunctiva. The maximum effect (mydriatic) is noted after the expiration of fifteen to thirty minutes and lasts for about four to six hours. The active component of the drug is phenylephrine hydrochloride.

Mesatin. Instruction: indications

The drug is prescribed for the dilatation of the pupil during ophthalmoscopy of the fundus of the eye and other procedures against the backdrop of monitoring the condition in the posterior ocular department. Mesaton recommends the use of the medication for provocative testing for suspected closed-angle glaucoma and with a narrow angle profile for the anterior eye chamber, differential diagnosis of the type of injection in the eyeball, irites and iridocyclitis to prevent the formation of posterior synechia, ruptures already present, and for Decrease in the exudation of the iris.

Mesatin. Instructions for use

When conducting diagnostic activities, ophthalmoscopy, this drug is injected by drop once into the conjunctival sac. Repeated instillation after an hour is allowed if long-term maintenance of mydriasis (dilated pupil) is necessary. Mesatone Instruction recommends instilling with uveitis into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye one drop per day twice or thrice before the inflammatory process is eliminated.

The duration of the drug, as a rule, is determined by the doctor.

To the side manifestations of the drug "Mezaton" the instruction refers to a burning sensation at the beginning of therapy, discomfort, blurred vision, irritation. After instillation, lacrimation may increase, and pressure (intraocular pressure) may increase. On the second day of use, probably an increase in blood pressure, increased sweating, pallor, palpitations, headache.

Contraindicated drug with a closed-angle or narrow-angle glaucoma, in the elderly with disorders of cerebrovascular or cardiovascular systems of pronounced nature. Mesaton is not prescribed for impaired integrity in the eyeball or for the function of lacrimation, hyperthyroidism, hypersensitivity, hepatic porphyria, congenital insufficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase.

The application can again cause mydriasis (dilated pupil) less pronounced than the day before. This phenomenon is more typical for patients of advanced age.

In connection with the unexplained impact of the drug on the state of the pregnant woman and the fetus, as well as the baby on breastfeeding, Mesaton's use is allowed on the recommendation of the doctor and under his regular supervision.

On the admission of any medications you need to inform the ophthalmologist.

Enhance the mydriatic effect of Mesotonum may concomitant use of atropine locally. With caution, the drug should be used in conjunction with monoamine oxidase inhibitors because of the high risk of developing adrenergic reactions of a systemic nature. Tricyclic antidepressants, m-holinoblockers, guanetidine, reserpine, propranolol can potentiate (intensify) the vasopressor effect of Mesatone.

Shelf life of the drug is two years. The opened vial is suitable for fourteen days. At the end of these periods, Mesaton's use is not recommended.

As practice shows, the drug is tolerated well enough. However, before using, you must carefully read the annotation, consult your doctor.
