Main computer devices

Analysts say that soon the usual personal computers will disappear, giving way to their compact analogs - laptops. Indeed, the trends are exactly this, because in the past, one of the advantages of a full-fledged system unit in front of mobile computers was a higher level of performance, but now, with the advent of "thin" technological processes, this has become less noticeable. It's no surprise to quad-core processors in laptops and productive video cards. The remaining drawback is an insufficient diagonal of the screen, it is easily overcome by connecting an external monitor. In this case, do you need to know the main devices of the computer? Yes! Although much is changing in computing technology, the main nodes remain the same in laptops, tablets, netbooks, and personal computers.

So, what does the system unit consist of? First of all - the body. Of course, you can assemble a computer on boxes, but for permanent use this is hardly advisable, but suitable only for testing. Often cases are implemented with a pre-installed power supply, although this is not the rule. The user can at any time replace the power supply unit with another model - for example, with higher power or with a quiet mode of operation.

The main devices of the computer are a motherboard, a central processor, a RAM module, a video card and a device for permanent storage of information. It can not be said that everything is necessary. Only the first three are really irreplaceable. This is not always obvious, so at this point we will dwell in more detail.

In all bios of modern motherboards there is an item that allows you to boot the system remotely via the LAN interface. Thus, you can do without a hard disk or a flash drive with the operating system installed.

Also, the main devices of the computer can safely "lose" the video card. For example, remotely managed servers can do without it (the main difficulty is to make the computer turn on).

For the same reason, the peripheral parts of the computer, except the power supply, may be completely absent.

But, of course, this is more an exception than the rule. The examples cited point to the fact that the main devices of the computer are a power supply, a motherboard, a processor and RAM.

The power supply unit converts AC voltage to DC, changing the effective value. Pulsed transformers are used for such conversion .

The motherboard is one of the main components of any computer. Its task is to link all the internal components together, as does the nervous system of the human body. Also here are the power supply elements of the CPU, chips of audio codecs and network interfaces.

The processor is the largest chip that performs mathematical calculations. Programs are instructions that are executed by the central processor. It is installed in a special socket of the motherboard, after which it is fixed. A replacement for a newer model is allowed provided that compatibility is maintained.

The RAM module is represented by a set of microcircuits disassembled on a rectangular textolite plate with two rows of sliding contacts. It is connected to the motherboard via the corresponding connector. All the intermediate results of the calculations performed by the processor are stored in memory, so without it the computer can not work.

A hard disk is a kind of repository of all digital data - programs, files. If, after turning off the power, the contents of the main memory are lost, then all the recorded data is stored.

A video card is a device that converts computer's electronic signals into a human-readable image on the monitor screen. In addition, due to the fact that 3D applications are processed by it, there is a specialized processor on the card, the processing power of which has long exceeded the analogous value of the central processors.
