Belgorod (Russia) is mentioned in the annals from the 13th century. Today it is a modern metropolis with a developed infrastructure. There are several museums in the city, one of them is a local history museum.

History

The State Historical Museum of Local History (Belgorod) was opened for citizens and guests in 1924 as a branch of the Kursk Museum. The first building in which the institution was located was the former male Trinity Monastery. In the pre-war years in the museum's funds were stored more than eight thousand exhibits. During the Great Patriotic War the city got into occupation, museum values were partially looted and destroyed.

Restoration of the exposition and funds began immediately after the Victory. To open the museum of local lore (Belgorod) was already in 1948 in a new building on the street. Frunze, house 42. Currently, more than 160 thousand exhibits are stored in museum funds. The number of visitors is constantly increasing and on the average is about 80 thousand people a year. The building of the museum, designed by architect V. V. Vishnevsky, has the status of a monument of federal significance.

Collections of the museum

The Belgorod State Museum of History and Local Lore has extensive collections of exhibits. A small part is exhibited on thematic stands, a larger number is in the repositories where research is being conducted.

The collection is divided into the following sections:

• Archeology . • Furniture . The basis of the memorial exhibition is the furnishings belonging to the famous actor MS Shchepkin. In total, the collection contains 200 items.
• Clothes . The collection includes samples of church vestments, elements of urban, rural, military costume. Presented are hats, shoes, accessories of different time. In total, the collection contains 600 items.
• The weapon . Domestic and foreign samples of firearms and cold steel of different ages. A large collection of items from the period of the Great Patriotic War.
• Natural science materials . The collection (about 6 thousand units) collected representatives of the animal and vegetable world, widespread in the Belgorod region. Of great interest are the large collections of insects, birds, and so on.
• Ethnography . In this department there are more than 5 thousand exhibits, which reflect the features of folk costumes, crafts, crafts.
