Lining fabrics: types and properties

Often when buying and wearing things we do not pay attention to the inside - the lining. However, this detail of clothes plays an important role, and the materials used for these purposes are presented with a number of requirements. In the textile market, lining fabrics are presented in a wide range, and in order to make the right choice, it is necessary to know what properties the canvas should have for a particular kind of clothing.

Properties of lining fabrics

The purpose of the lining is not only to keep the slices of the product from shedding and blooming from the inside, but also to ensure optimum conditions for the microclimate in the clothes. This is the most important moment when choosing a material. In this case, the lining fabrics should have the following characteristics:

  • It is good to let in air;
  • Absorb moisture, which is released from the human body;
  • Have sufficient softness, strength and resistance to mechanical influences (friction, various types of deformation and others);
  • Not cause allergic reactions of the body;
  • Have a small weight, so as not to create unnecessary load when the product is worn.

Types of lining fabrics

Lining fabrics are produced in a wide range, in which two main types can be distinguished:

  • Natural fabrics: satin, flannel, bike, twill, silk;
  • Synthetic materials: taffeta, knitted mesh, satin, polyester and polyester fabrics and others.

At the same time, it can be noted that natural lining fabrics have excellent properties to create an optimal microclimate under clothing. However, they also have disadvantages, for example, cotton materials are quite heavy as a lining. In turn, synthetic fabrics tend to accumulate static electricity and poor air permeability. But recently, textile developers have achieved good results in the production of excellent canvases from synthesized materials. They have excellent characteristics, such as lightness, high abrasion resistance and other mechanical influences.

The main points when choosing a fabric for lining

When choosing a backing material, the following information may be useful.

  • In the production of demi-season types of clothing (jackets, raincoats and coats) it is better to use dense fabrics with a waterproof coating.
  • For knitwear is better to choose an elastic lining, the degree of extensibility is equal to the same characteristic of the main material. Also, the fibers in both kinds of webs should be stretched in one direction. The most popular is the lining fabric "mesh", it does not fetter movements and provides comfort when wearing.
  • For summer clothes, the most suitable option is viscose, because the fabrics made of these fibers are highly hygroscopic and do not become electrified.
  • This characteristic of the lining fabric, like color, is also important. The shade of the base material should be slightly lighter, while the slices and other internal details will not be visible through the lining.

The choice of lining material depends on the purpose of the product, taking into account the main characteristics discussed above. Also, knowledge of the information given in this article may allow you to make the right choice, and at the same time create a quality product.
