Lenin's Library. The Moscow Lenin Library

The Russian Lenin Library is the national book depository of the Russian Federation. Among other things, it is the leading research institution, the methodological and advisory center of the country. The Lenin Library is located in Moscow. What is the history of this institution? Who stood at its source? How many books does the Moscow Lenin Library hold? About this and much more later in the article.

National book depository from 1924 to the present day

The State Lenin Library (whose opening hours will be listed below) was formed on the basis of the Rumyantsev Museum. Since 1932 the book depository has been included in the list of research centers of national importance. In the first days of the Second World War, the most valuable funds were evacuated from the institution. It was packed and exported about 700 thousand rare manuscripts, which were stored by the Lenin Library. Nizhny Novgorod became the place of evacuation of valuable meetings. I must say that in Gorky there is also a fairly large book depository - the main one in the region.

Chronology

In the period from July 1941 to March 1942, the Lenin Library sent more than 500 letters with offers of exchange to various countries , mainly English-speaking countries . A number of states received consent. In 1942 the book depository established book exchange relations with 16 countries and with 189 organizations. The greatest interest was represented by relations with the USA and England.

By May of the same year, the administration of the institution started "passportization", which was completed before the end of hostilities. As a result, filing cabinets and catalogs were taken into account and brought to the proper view. The first reading room of the book depository was opened in 1942, May 24. In the next, 43-m, the department of youth and children's literature was formed. By 1944, the Lenin Library returned the valuable funds evacuated at the beginning of the war. In the same year, the Board and the Book of Honor were created. In February of the 44th, the department of restoration and hygiene was established in the book depository. With him, a research laboratory was formed. In the same year, questions were resolved on the transfer of doctoral and candidate dissertations to the library. The active formation of the fund was carried out mainly through the acquisition of antiquarian world and national literature. In 1945, on May 29, the book depository was awarded the Order of Lenin for his outstanding contribution to the preservation and collection of publications and services to a wide audience. Together with this medals and orders received a large number of staff of the institution.

The development of the book depository in the post-war years

By 1946, the question arose about the formation of a consolidated catalog of Russian publications. On April 18 of the same year, the State Lenin Library became the venue for a readers' conference. By the next year, 1947, a provision was approved that established regulations for the compilation of a consolidated catalog of Russian publications of the large book depositories of the Soviet Union.

To implement this activity, a methodical council was created on the basis of the book depository. It included representatives of various public libraries (named after Saltykov-Shchedrin, the book depository of the Academy of Sciences and others). As a result of all the activities, preparation of a base for the catalog of Russian editions of the 19th century began. Also in 1947, a belt conveyor and an electric train were delivered to deliver the requirements to the library's storage of books from reading rooms and a 50-meter conveyor for the transportation of publications.

Structural changes in the institution

At the end of 1952, the Statute of the book depository was approved. In April 1953, in connection with the disbandment of the Committee dealing with the affairs of cultural and educational institutions, and the formation of the Ministry of Culture in the RSFSR, the Lenin Library was transferred to the newly formed department of state administration. By 1955, in the cartography sector, the printing and distribution of printed cards for incoming atlases and maps on a compulsory copy began. At the same time, the international subscription was renewed.

From 1957 to 1958, several reading rooms were opened. In accordance with the Order issued by the Ministry of Culture, in 1959 an editorial board was established, the activity of which was supposed to publish tables of library and bibliographic classification. During the 1959-60s, the auxiliary funds that belonged to the scientific halls were transferred to open access. Thus, by the mid-sixties more than 20 reading rooms functioned in the book depository for more than 2300 places.

Achievements

In 1973 the library named after Lenin received the highest award of Bulgaria - the Order of Dmitrov. In early 1975, the fiftieth anniversary of the transformation of the Rumyantsev public book depository into a national one was held. In early 1992 the library received the status of Russian. In the following, the 93rd year, the department of isoizdaniy was one of the founders of MABIS (Moscow Association of Art Collections). In 1995, the State Library launched the project "Memory of Russia". By the next year, a project for the modernization of the institution was approved. Along with this, new information carriers were introduced, which significantly changed the technological processes within the library structure.

Bookstore funds

The first collection of the library was the meeting of Rumyantsev. It included more than 28 thousand publications, 1000 maps, 700 manuscripts. In one of the first Regulations regulating the work of the book depository, it was stated that all literature should be included in the institution, which was and will be published in the Russian Empire.
