English actor Lawrence Harvey was born on October 1, 1928 in Lithuania. At the age of five, he moved with his father and mother to South Africa, the city of Johannesburg. During the Second World War, he traveled along the fronts as part of an artistic brigade, served in the Italian army, visited Egypt, but eventually returned to Johannesburg. In the postwar years, the young man graduated from high school and got a job as a cutter for a diamond processing plant. This occupation brought him a small income, and the family could already make ends meet in a difficult post-war period.

Theatrical scene

In 1946, Lawrence Harvey took part in a scholarship, which was organized by the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, won a bonus and entered the directing department. After graduating from the academy, he worked in theaters of Manchester, London and Stratford-on-Avon. Career in cinema

Lawrence Harvey debuted on the big screen in 1948, in the film directed by Osvald Mitchell called "House of Darkness." The young actor did not make an impression, and the next prominent role in the movie he received only in 1954. Lawrence Harvey played Romeo in the famous Shakespeare play "Romeo and Juliet". With good external data, the actor with the role of the enamored heir to Montague still failed. His character looked pale and unconvincing.

Nevertheless, Lawrence R. Harvey, whose films could be counted on the fingers, was invited to Hollywood by the Warner Brothers Company to star in the movie "Richard the Lionheart". How successful the actor played in Hollywood is unknown.

After settling in America, Lawrence Harvey took part in several productions on Broadway. His role in the play "The Island of Goats" was awarded the International Theater Prize, despite the fact that the production itself failed. Then Lawrence Harvey played in a comedy called "Provincial" and in the drama "Henry V".

The first truly successful actor role was the character Joe Lampton in the film "The Way Up", shot in 1959 by director Jack Clayton. The picture received good reviews from critics. Harvey Lawrence, whose films became increasingly popular, became a well-known actor.

The summary of the film "The Way Up"

The film tells of a not too fortunate provincial named Joe Lampton, who in the hope of success comes to a neighboring city. He makes a plan, according to which he intends to get acquainted with the pretty daughter of the fantastically rich and influential city dweller, Mr. Brown.

The girl's name is Susan, and she plays at the local amateur theater. Joe enrolls in this theater and in passing gets acquainted with Alice Eisjil, a beauty in the years, but still fresh. Lampton is approaching a new acquaintance, and they become lovers. Then he remembers his plan, throws Alice and gets an affair with Susan. She answers Joe's courtship and spends several nights with him.

However, when he gets closer to his daughter, he does not get closer to her father. Moreover, Mr. Brown immediately recognized Lampton and pointed to the door. He sends his beloved daughter for a while to Europe, away from sin.

Lampton's plans crumble, and he returns to Alice. Suddenly Susan returns and confesses to her parents that she is pregnant. Mr. Brown is preparing a wedding.

Alice with grief gets drunk in a bar and dies in a car accident. Joe is having a hard time experiencing what happened, since he loved Alice with all his heart. Having drunk, Lampton goes for a walk, and on the street he is beaten to death. However, the wedding with Susan's pregnant took place.
