Korean currency, its features

Since the appearance of the first money in Korea, a thousand years have passed. The name of the monetary unit often changed, and its stable turnover was established only in the 19th century. In this eastern country, natural exchange was extended long enough, in most cases rice, fabrics, and silver were used.

Subsequently, attempts were made to introduce a monetary system. So, coins with hieroglyphs began to be made. In their center was a square hole for stringing the thread, since such coins were cheap, so we had to make bundles, the mass of which could reach even a few kilograms. It was very uncomfortable, so people returned to their usual barter.

The monetary system, which was established in 1962, is still widespread today. Korean currency is a won, which after the reform began to contain inscriptions only in the native language (earlier it had English-language symbols).

To date, the monetary units of this republic have not changed, but it is worth noting that coins in 1 and 5 won are almost not used. Now in the circulation of money, bills of 1, 5, 10 and 50 thousand won, as well as coins with the nominal value of 50, 100, 500 monetary units.

The Korean currency contains images of philosophers, public enlighteners, as well as monuments of architecture. So, on the 10-won coin, you can see the old architectural structure of Korea - the temple of Phulgux, on the 100-year-old - the famous general Li Sun-Sin, and the flying crane in the sky decorates 500-new coins.

It should be noted that the form of Korean money remains virtually unchanged for quite some time. Interesting is the fact that only once the Korean currency contained the image of President Lee Seung Man. In the past, it was not customary to portray the leaders of the country.

By the way, one should know that Korea's coins, the Chinese yuan and the Japanese yen are the same monetary units. They differ only in the pronunciation of the hieroglyph used to designate coins.

The country also distributed bank checks for 100 thousand won or more. In the calculations on their back side, the passport number, telephone number and full address in Korea should be indicated, so their application does not apply to tourists.

To date, the rate of the Korean currency to the ruble is 28.1758.

It should be noted that credit cards are also accepted in this country. In addition, dollars in settlements in the market or in many stores have the same distribution as the Korean currency, however, they can not be paid in department stores, supermarkets and hotels.

It should be noted that Korea has a very well developed network of banks. These institutions work on weekdays from 9.30 to 16.30, on Saturday reduced working day - to 13.30. There are also many ATMs that are located in large hotels and shops, subway stations and near attractions. They work from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm, however, there are 24-hour Hennet ATMs.

It should be remembered that when you buy, you will be charged 10% of the total cost of the product or service. This tax is refundable to tourists who purchased products with the corresponding inscription and leave Korea not later than three months from the date of payment.
