Kalmyk knot: ways of knitting, application

A knotted knot, or another name - a Kalmyk knot, is a comfortable, durable, self-tightening knot that can be easily unscrewed. It is mainly used in the navy, although they invented it in the steppe expanses of Kalmykia far from the sea. In none of the foreign manuals on knitting knots is not mentioned, and foreign sailors do not know how to tie it.

Kalmyk knot: how to knit

You can quickly tie it in the following way:

  • For any object it is necessary to start the cable with the running end;
  • From the end of the cable you need to retreat a little, then take it with your left hand from above, so that your thumb is pointed at yourself;
  • On top of the left fist, with the right hand, put the root end to where the track will be located;
  • Near the fist to produce a 360 degree turn by the root part;
  • With your left hand, move the root end to the root portion of the loop;
  • At the same time, draw a running end around this part of the rope, clasping it with your fingers;
  • From the running end make a loop and pull it through the hose of the root end, located on the left hand;
  • The resulting knot is tightened with the root end.

The Kalmyk knot is perfectly held, and it can be untied instantly by pulling the running end. In order for the node not to untie immediately, it is necessary to skip the running end in the loop, but it is not required to double it. With this method of knitting you get a Cossack knot.

Application

  • To bind the throwing end, which is fed from the ship to the berth.
  • For the supply of tools and other items to the masts and overboard the vessel.
  • For fastening to the bridle of the reins.
  • To tie horses in the stables.

The Kalmyk knot is a sea knot. There are many different, but no less important, nodes that are often used. For example, fishermen use them to weave fishing nets.

Why do we need fishing nets?

The network is convenient because it can fish without being present. Any fisher can independently link the network. They are knit from a fishing line or a kapron cord. From the line, the net turns out to be less strong, but it is easy to remove fish from it. From a kapron cord the network is much stronger, but it can get confused when the catch is taken from it.

Networks are also available in fishing stores with different sizes of cells, but they require a certain snap, which is not very convenient. It is best to tie the network yourself to suit your desires, than to find the same one on sale.

Knitting fishing nets

In order to weave the network, the following materials will be required:

  • Rope (fishing line or kapron thread);
  • Sinker;
  • Floats.

Ropes should be selected in such a way that the grid withstood the expected prey. The line is suitable for fishing nets, and the nylon thread is for nets and spoils.

Floats and sinkers should be round in shape so as not to damage the network. And to increase the service life they paint with paint or varnish. They are mostly used on a network of fishing lines, which are called entangled. The floats are fastened close to each other on top of the network, and are loaded from below. As floats use a light material: wood, polystyrene or birch bark, and heavy - metal or burnt clay - is used on the sinker.

Manual method of netting

Weaving the nets manually using the shuttle. This tool is easy to make by yourself, its length is 10-15 cm. The shuttle serves as a needle, and a line or string is wound on it. One end of the shuttle is pointed, and it has a slot, and the other ends with a double-headed.

The line or cord is easily wound on the shuttle. At the end of the cord, make a small loop and cling to the tongue. The cord is carried to the recess downward, leading from the rear to the tongue, wrapped around it and stretched from the front side through the recess, so the whole cord is wound around.

In addition to the shuttle, a template is required. It is a plate that resembles a ruler of a schoolboy, half the size of a network cell. To make a template, use plastic, wood or some other material. In addition, you will need a strong loop of wire, to which the cord is attached during the netting. The loop is usually attached to the wall.

When making tools independently, they must be carefully processed with sandpaper to eliminate all burrs. In this case, the cord used will not be damaged.

How to tie a knot for networking:

  • Pull the cord from above, and then below the template;
  • Shuttle the shuttle through the previous loop and again bring it to the template, grasping the thumb with a thread;
  • Shuttle between the first two cords;
  • Tighten the knot.

Each next node is executed similarly. The number of dialed cells with common sides should correspond to the height of the grid. Next to them in each row will be vyazvyazyvayut new cells, forming a web of the network. After the first row is completed, a strong cord is pulled through its cells and its ends are fixed. Cloth knit on.

Knitting on a special machine

When using a network weaving machine, the production time is reduced. There are several types of machines. The most demanded is the device, in which the body and the shuttle are made of an aluminum pipe. In front of the shuttle there is a slot for the passage of the thread, as well as an oblique cut, which is located at an angle of 45 degrees. In the end, there is a groove, similar to a cone with a depth of 0.25 cm, in which a bobbin is fixed. This detail is made of bronze and moves freely inside the shuttle. A travel stop is provided for the latter.

The netting on the machine begins with the bobbin being inserted into the shuttle and closed with a cork. The shuttle is inserted into the body until it stops forward with a stopper. Using for knitting the machine, the thread should be carried over the template, and then under it and then passed into the previous loop. The thread of the cell, as a rule, passes under the shuttle, but leaves above it. Pressing the thread with your thumb, the shuttle is pulled to the template. The shuttle to the left of itself and to pass, having captured one or two threads. Pull on the thread and go to the knitting next cell.

Knitting knots used for netting

It is difficult for a beginner to learn knitting knots for fishing nets. Knots for knitting networks there are many varieties with different names: direct, normal, reverse, school, double, one-and-a-half, single and others.

Every fisherman tries to keep the secrets of knitting knitting. The knitter's skill and the value of the knot lies in the fact that the single knot does not expand with the hands when stretching the loop.

Consider in more detail how to tie a knot for knitting mesh, using the shuttle:

  1. Single. It is necessary to take ten to twenty meters of thick kapron thread and put it on a small size shuttle. At the end of the thread firmly tighten the loop of any size. Opposite the eye of the person sitting in the wall to drive a nail. Attach a loop to it at the node point. Thus, it turns out that the hinge and thread, hanging to the shuttle, hang from the nail. Tie the knot, picking up the loop from the bottom up with the shuttle.
  2. Shkotovy. This node is simple in execution. In general, it is used as a sea knot, but it is also used for weaving certain types of fishing nets. How to knit this knot is depicted in the photo above.

Conclusion

The ability to knit knots, including a Kalmyk knot, is necessary in life. Without this skill, people of many professions can not do: firemen, mine rescuers, builders, sailors, climbers, climbers, fishermen. And every person in everyday life ties up various knots: on a tie, shoe laces, bows. Therefore, how to properly knit, you need to know and be able to all without exception.
