Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable bowel syndrome is a disorder of the digestive tract. The condition is characterized by abdominal pain, swelling, spasms, constipation or diarrhea. Irritable bowel syndrome is a long-term illness, however, it is not a big problem to relieve symptoms.

It should be noted that the signs of ailment can change daily for worse or better. Irritable bowel syndrome does not provoke more serious pathologies, such as, for example, inflammatory diseases or cancerous tumors.

Most people who are prone to GI disorders, note soreness in eating, discomfort.

Irritable bowel syndrome is accompanied by a weakened motility of the digestive tract, in some cases, constipation conditions alternate with diarrhea, and incomplete emptying of the stomach is also felt.

Presumably, the condition is caused by increased sensitivity of the gastrointestinal tract. The reason for this is not clear.

Symptoms of a gastrointestinal disorder can cause stress and food. The main method of treating the disease is a change in diet and management of nervous reactions. The use of medicines is advisable in the manifestation of severe symptoms that impede normal life activity.

As the observations of patients show, some products cause irritable bowel syndrome. Diet, thus, involves the exclusion of certain types of food. Control over the diet in this case is carried out to a greater extent by the patient. In general, you can change it based on the leading symptom.

No special diet for irritable bowel syndrome is prescribed. However, there is a set of products, the exception or addition of which allows you to eliminate constipation or diarrhea.

To facilitate the difficulty of emptying the intestine, it is recommended to add fiber to the diet. It is able to absorb water and increase the volume of contents in the thick part of the body. This, in turn, greatly facilitates defecation and increases its frequency. Fiber is found in fresh fruits (apples, pears), vegetables, wheat bran, coarse grain and cereals, and beans. Increase in fiber is recommended to be gradual, in order to avoid increased gas production.

With constipation, frequent fluid intake is recommended. You should drink at least six or eight glasses a day.

If there are any difficulties with the constant intake of the required amount of products containing fiber, the use of special additives to food is allowed. They can contain fiber, methylcellulose or ground seeds. These additives from laxatives differ in that they do not have an irritant effect on the intestinal mucosa.

However, not always increasing the fiber content in the diet affects the condition of the patients beneficially. In some cases, its administration may increase individual symptoms of the disease, for example, bloating.

To facilitate diarrhea, it is recommended to exclude certain foods from the diet. These include apples, beans, cabbage, fatty foods, sausages. In addition, dairy products, alcohol containing caffeine (tea, chocolate, coffee) are not recommended. Doctors advise also to limit or rule out smoking and chewing tobacco. Diarrhea can also cause xylitol and sorbitol (artificial sweeteners), contained in chewing gum and some sweets.

Experts recommend to exclude the above products gradually. Thus, it is possible to track the disappearance or alleviation of symptoms. In the event that the rejection of any product does not affect the manifestation of the syndrome, it is not necessary to exclude it from the diet.
