Iron iron: obtaining, application, properties
To protect certain elements of building structures from corrosion, special substances are used. Due to their properties, the decorativeness and sanitary-hygienic qualities of the building improve. Iron oxide is one of such compositions. Apply this substance and in many other cases.
What Iron Ox is Made of
Calcining limonite ore mass in an oxygen-air medium, it is brought to the desired consistency. Then the powder, crushed in the belly of a special machine called a "crash", is packed in sack or metal containers for dispatch to industrial enterprises. Participating in the production chains as the main or additional substance, iron marble application has quite a variety.
Irreplaceable raw materials
- In paint and varnish in the manufacture of primers and color mixtures;
- In the glass;
- In the automotive industry;
- In the production of plastics;
- In the production of flame retardants and formulations;
- When polishing glass and metal parts as an abrasive finely dispersed material.
In addition, this composition covers some parts of new cars, as this action perfectly protects the metal from rust.
Such habitual building paint
The paint is made by dissolving the iron powder in naphthalene (oil) varnishes. To maintain the state of the suspension, thixotropic and desiccant additives are added to the mixture. After the obligatory thorough mixing and packaging, the weatherproof anticorrosive paint is used for iron oxide (brown color).
Artificial or natural pigment: which is better
In the industry, two types of dyes are used: artificial and natural. Synthetic fillers are distinguished by brightness, variety and saturation of the color palette. Natural dyes are extracted from the bowels of the earth. They are distinguished by cheapness, harmlessness and better resistance to external influences of the atmosphere. Iron wax refers to the second group. The following substances are also natural mineral pigments:
- White chalk and yellow ocher;
- Brown umber and dark yellow sienna;
- Red vermilion and black-gray pyrolusitis;
- Graphite and bauxite.
How to use paint
Iron oxide is applied to the prepared surface with an ordinary brush. The drying time of the coating depends on the temperature conditions and can last from 20 to 24 hours. To obtain better protection from external influences, the coloring composition is applied in several layers, before waiting for the complete drying of the previous one. If to hurry and neglect the rule of this technology, the coating will not fully meet the necessary requirements. The paint film will become wrinkled and easily damaged.
Safety measures at work
Self-conducting paint work, you must follow simple safety rules. In this case, they include the following items:
- The room, which uses iron oxide, must be ventilated both during the period of painting and after it.
- Smoking and the use of open sources of fire near the work object are prohibited.
- The hands should be rubber or disposable gloves. You can use special protective biocreams.
- Points will protect your eyes from accidental penetration of microdroplets of paint on the cornea.
In case of contact with the skin, unprotected skin should be wiped off with a cloth flap moistened with mineral spirits or any vegetable oil. Then rinse with warm water with household degreaser or soap.
After the end of the work, the remaining iron wax remains away from heating appliances and fire sources. The bank should be tightly closed to prevent thickening and drying of the composition. Do not store the paint in the sun, in the cold and in the rain.
