Hydrangea Vanilla Frejzi: planting and care, photo, dimensions, preparation for winter, reviews

Domestic gardeners for a long time have grown fond and have "settled" beautifully blossoming hydrangeas of the most various kinds on the sites - tree-like and дуболистные, метельчатые and petiolate, пильчатые and крупнолистовые. But almost every year in the market there are all new decorative attractive varieties of this plant. One such novelty in recent years is the Vanilla Freizian panicle hydrangea . Planting and caring for her are fairly simple, and the actions that need to be performed to make the bush well developed and annually rejoice with their unique flowering, are the same as those of other varieties. However, there are specific features and nuances.

general characteristics

Hydrangea paniculata Vanille Fraise - that's how the scientific name of the beautiful Vanilla Frejzi sounds. Hortensia is photophilous, but it also grows and develops in areas with penumbra. This plant does not tolerate calcareous soils, but on well-fertilized moistened and slightly acidic soils demonstrates all its decorative qualities. If you want to plant in your area such a perennial beautifully flowering shrub, like Hydrangea Vanilla Frejzi, its size in the adult state should be taken into account. After all, from a small black for quite a short time, a plant with a round crown with a diameter of 2 and a height of 1.5 meters can grow. In the paniculate hydrangea of this variety, young erect shoots of red color are very decorative. Under the weight of flowers, they bend, giving the bush a spherical shape. The dense dark green leaves of Vanille Fraise have an oblong form, slightly pubescent and feel like velvet. The root system of this rather large, in the adult state of the shrub is small, but rather branched. The plant is frost-resistant and is able to tolerate a cooling to -29 ° C without shelter. But the majority of specialists are unanimous in that in the conditions of the middle zone this hydrangea is better still to shelter and not to allow the branches to freeze out.

Features of flowering

One of the most beautiful panicles is the hydrangea of Vanilla Frejzi. Planting and caring for it gives amazing results in its beauty: large, up to 40 cm long and up to 30 cm wide, pyramidal inflorescences resembling a horn with vanilla-strawberry ice cream. This hydrangea blooms from July to September on the escapes of the current year. Such a variety, as hydrangea Vanilla Frejzi (reviews of flower growers will not let you lie) has flowers unique in color. And at the very beginning of flowering they are all snow-white, then along the edge of the petals appears a dark pink border. Over time, the bottom of the inflorescence is stained with a strawberry-red color, gradually turning into a gentle pink shade. The tip of the inflorescence remains white, and this feature is only Vanilla Freizia panicle hydrangea. Planting and care (the photo that you see below, it shows) can help show the beauty of this beautiful plant. The number and size of the opening inflorescences directly depend on the trimming.

Where can you put it?

As already mentioned above, all panicle hydrangeas, in particular the Vanille Fraise variety, are plants that are rather unpretentious and capable of growing both in the sun and in the penumbra. However, planting this perennial on a solar plot, it should be remembered that the rate of its growth will be noticeably lower than in the shade. Such a bush will be quite low, and inflorescences - shallow. Under no circumstances should there be limestone soil on the site where hydrangeas of Vanilla Frei will be planted.

Planting and caring for this plant will be a pleasure if you plant this perennial into the soil that meets the following conditions. She must be:

  • Weakly acidic or neutral;
  • Fertile and loose;
  • Enriched with organic fertilizers;
  • Moderately, but constantly moisturized.

If you decide to plant this beautiful flowering shrub in the shady corner of your possessions , you will have to constantly ensure that the soil at its roots is all the time dilapidated. If there is neither the strength nor the desire to keep on loosening all the time, you can make your life easier by adding a little mulch to the ground under the hydrangea during the first treatment.

When to plant?

In the middle zone, spring is the best time for planting, because until the autumn it will not only be able to adapt itself, but also the hydrangeas of Vanilla Frejzi will be well established. Planting and care of planted plants are carried out as follows. First of all dig holes 30x30x30 cm for each seedling.

Between them should be a distance of about a meter. In each dug hole, before planting the plant, add about ½ a bucket of peat mixed with the overripe compost or humus, and spilled with water. Then the hydrangeas roots are spread and placed in the planting pit, after which they fall asleep with the garden soil, without deepening the root neck. It is necessary to compact the soil around the roots so that there are no air "pockets".

After planting, the plant needs to be watered and gently loosened the upper soil layer. If at this time the sun is very bright and hot, then you need to cover the seedling with a spunbond or any other concealed material to prevent burns.

How to feed?

For the first time, organic (aqueous solution of manure) and mineral, at best complex fertilizers under the planted hydrangea at the end of May, are introduced. In a couple of weeks, you can repeat the fertilizing, as it will help the plant to lay a flower buds for the next season.

Under successfully overwintered hydrangea bushes in the spring make any nitrogen fertilizer, and in the summer they feed a solution of infused and fermented grass. You can also use specialized fertilizers for hydrangeas, and if there are none, use the formulations intended for rhododendrons or azaleas. In late summer and early autumn under the bushes you can add superphosphate.

Water regime

Vanilla Freizi's panicle hydrangea, like any other, prefers well-moistened soil. In order for this perennial to develop well and to please with its unusual flowering, it is necessary not to allow the upper layer of the earth to dry out. For this purpose, the surfaces around the bushes are mulched with superfilled sawdust or peat. If dry and hot weather is established, the plant will have to be watered abundantly, 30-50 liters per each bush twice a week. Under normal summer temperature conditions, it is enough to water once in seven days.

How and when to trim?

Most varieties of hydrangea paniculate, including Vanille Fraise, need to form a shrub pruned. This procedure is carried out in the spring. To do this, leave 5 to 10 shoots on each plant, shortening them to 2-5 kidneys. When pruning, remember that the number and size of the inflorescences depend on how much you cut the shoots. So, if you cut two pairs of kidneys below the faded inflorescence, there will be many small inflorescences. In the event that two branches of kidneys were left on the branch, there will be few flower brushes, but they will be large. In addition, you need to regularly remove dry inflorescences, as this procedure stimulates the appearance of new ones in the next season.

Hydrangea Vanilla Frejzi: preparation for winter

Flattened hydrangeas tolerate our winters well, especially if there are no sharp temperature changes. A distinctive feature of Vanille Fraise is its high frost resistance up to -29 0 C. And if grown plants can survive the harsh winter and only the shoots will freeze, then young bushes can simply die. In order to successfully winter your hydrangeas successfully, it's enough to bush bushes in 20-30 cm with rotten compost or garden soil in autumn. Plants planted in spring should be sheltered, especially the radical circle. For this purpose, fallen leaves of trees or coniferous lapnik are suitable.
