How to use the scanner in Windows

Now almost every computer owner owns a home scanner. And most often it is purchased in an appendage to the printer. Alas, with each subsequent update of the line of printers, it becomes clear that manufacturers are gradually abandoning the release of highly specialized solutions, preferring them to combines that combine the printer with the scanner. Although the scanner for the average computer owner is extremely rare, the functions of the copier (copier) are sometimes very useful.

You can read about using a combo solution for replicating copies in the instructions. We will dwell on a more complicated version - on how to use the scanner (independent) in the environment of the Windows operating system. All modern models for communication with a computer use the USB interface, so first connect the device wire to the corresponding free port of the computer. Varieties with a CIS matrix for powering all internal circuits use a USB current (500 mA). But CCD scanners (with a backlight) require the connection of an additional power supply. Having switched on all the necessary wires, we press the power button on the scanner (in the CIS it is enough to connect USB-interfaces). The hardware component is prepared. But this is not the full answer to the question "how to use the scanner", since further installation of programs is necessary.

The scanner must include a driver disk and bonus applications. A driver is a control program that provides the operating system with instructions on how to interact with the connected device. It is recommended to go directly to the site of the scanner manufacturer and download the latest version of the driver for the model you are using. If the equipment was detected and the driver is installed, there should be no problems with how to use the scanner. The exception is too old models, more unsupported by the manufacturer and incompatible with the new operating systems. Let us dwell on this point in more detail, since the number of owners of obsolete models is hundreds of thousands. How to use the scanner to them? The solution exists, and there are as many as three!

The first is to install an old operating system, which is still supported by the driver. For obvious reasons, hardly anyone will be delighted with the return from Seven to Win XP or even Win 9x.

The second method allows you to leave the modern system, but at the same time to use the scanner. It's about using a special emulator that creates a virtual computer. The most famous ones are VMware Workstation, Virtual PC and Virtual Box. They downloaded, installed, installed in the virtual environment an old operating system and used a scanner.

And, finally, the most convenient solution (if it works) is the use of VueScan. This application is designed specifically for scanners and, most importantly, can work without device drivers installed on the device. However, VueScan can not be launched with all devices, so you need to try.

Before scanning the document, the scanner must be configured. The number of available items depends on the driver and the program (Twain shell, Adobe Fine Reader, etc.). Usually it is enough to understand the resolution (dpi) and scan quality (color, black and white).

Sometimes you need to "share" the scanner on the network. This is possible only if the operating system fully supports the device. You can use third-party programs - BlindScanner, RemoteScan and the like. All of them work on the same principle: the server with the scanner is put on the server part of the program, and on the other - the client.

You can also take advantage of Windows. Through the monitor icon in the notification area, go to the Network Management Center. We view the full map. Using the "Wizard" we add the correct model of the scanner. This method is inferior to the previous one in terms of flexibility.
