How to recognize a video card on a computer

In some cases, the user will need to know the video card that is used on his computer. This is especially important for gamers, since the desire to get the most out of the games makes it necessary to closely monitor the output of new drivers. In addition, in order to find out if a particular game is running on the computer, it's enough just to know the parameters of your own video card. This will save time, which otherwise would have been spent on the installation. But how to find out the video card? We will try to answer this question.

There are several easy ways to find out which video card is involved in the system. For Windows XP, one of the simplest ways is to use a menu, the call of which is quite simple. To do this, right-click in any free space on the desktop. In the list that appears, select Properties. Then you need to go to the Settings tab. In the line "Screen connection module" and the current video card will be indicated.

For Windows 7, the procedure for finding a video card is slightly different. After the first click of the right button, it will be necessary to select not "Properties", but "Screen Resolution". Then go to the "Advanced Settings" tab, where the menu section "Adapter" will be available. By selecting it, the user will be given information about the video card that is being used.

The second way to learn the video card involves the use of Device Manager, which is accessed by right-clicking on the computer icon in Windows 7. For the previous version of Windows XP, select "My Computer". In the menu that appears, the user should click "Properties", after which the window will automatically be opened, in which the function that causes the launch of the "Device Manager" will be available. A list of all the equipment broken down by categories will appear before the user.

To find out information about the video card, you need to click the left button of the mouse on the highlighted item "Video adapters" once. Then the sub-item with the description of the graphic accelerator will open. If there are several, all of them will be described in this paragraph, where for each video card there will be a sub-item.

Another fairly simple way to determine your video card is to gather information through one of the DirectX applications. You can run it by typing "dxdiag" into the command line. The command line is called in two ways:

1) "Start", and then "Run".

2) The combination of keys "Win + R".

The application can request permission to verify digital signatures for drivers. Permission to perform this additional function is not necessary. Then the utility window appears, where you need to select "Display" or "Screen", depending on the version of the system. In the "Name" field, the model of the video card will be specified, and in the "Total memory" line, respectively, the amount of memory integrated into the video adapter. It should be noted that in some cases, for example, when using outdated drivers, this figure may be untrue.

The answer to this popular question about how to learn a video card can be obtained with the use of third-party programs. Among them there are both paid (all known Everest), and free, which will not be difficult to find.
