"Dandelion Wine" is one of the best stories of the great science fiction writer Ray Bredbei

I would like to divide my article about the work of my favorite writer into several parts. I will give my readers an opportunity to get acquainted with the work of Ray Bradbury, who by right can be called a real master of the world of literary fiction, I will tell you why "Dandelion Wine" is considered one of the author's most read works and, finally, I will acquaint him with the novel's main storylines .

I would like that, with my easy submission, everyone wants to discover or relive the amazing moments happening on the pages of the book.

1. Creativity of one of the most famous in the world of science fiction writers Ray Bradbury.

Most of his works are short stories that, despite their brevity, are capable of evoking vivid and very realistic images. Deepening into these, without exaggeration, say, literary masterpieces, for example, in the famous "Dandelion Wine", readers sometimes completely disengage from their surrounding reality, completely leaving for an amazing and mysterious world.

In the creative biography of Ray Bradbury there are only two major works: the novel "Martian Chronicles", written in 1959, and "451 degrees Fahrenheit", the book that brought the author not only world fame, but also made him the favorite of a huge number of script writers and directors.

2. "Dandelion Wine" - one of the best stories of the great science fiction writer.

The story "Dandelion Wine" was written long ago, back in 1957. It can be said with certainty that this work stands out among the author's literary works . Autobiographical book, filled with personal experiences, judgments and emotions.

The action takes place in a fictional town, which is a prototype of the small homeland of Ray Bradbury Vokigan, also located in Illinois, the USA.

"Wine from dandelions" combines the characteristic features of not only autobiographical prose, but also the motifs of the lyrical fairy tale are presented here. Drowning in reading, we follow with enthusiasm the events taking place in the inserted parables of the Machines of Happiness and Time, the magic lawnmower of Grandfather Douglas, the sorceress of Tarot, the junkman of Donas, the Soulmate, the late, and therefore unattainable, love of Miss Loomis and Mr. Forester.

I would say that the action in the novel develops at once in three plans:

  • On the one hand, these are funny, but, at the same time, sad adventures, which take place with the main character Douglas in the summer of 1928. The teenager, it seems, is just beginning to become consciously acquainted with the world of nature and people. He keeps a diary, dividing it into two parts and calling it special, very capacious, its sections. We have the opportunity to find out what is happening in the world for a guy "Ordinary events and deeds", but what is the opposite "Discoveries and revelations".
  • On the other hand, these pictures are, as a rule, a measured and well-established life of the tiny provincial town of Greentown, located in Illinois. Through the memories of Colonel Frelee, Miss Bentley, Mrs. Lucas and other characters, we learn not only about the present, but also about the past of this place. Particularly vividly illustrated are the images of old people - relatives of Douglas (grandmother, grandfather and great-grandmother). They are the custodians of family and clan traditions.
  • The third plan in Ray Bradbury's novel "Dandelion Wine" is presented by the reflections of an adult narrator, trying to convey to his readers his reflections on the heroes of the work, about the world of childhood, about nature, about time.

3. "Wine from dandelions." Readers' comments.

There is an entirely incorrect view that in the novel "Dandelion Wine"

The author sought to reflect the inner world of the child. Yes, this is the world. And with this I completely agree. But not internal, but external: unambiguous and fixed. And the main character, looking at him with his still childish eyes, tries to resist. Douglas' world is bright and mobile, but when combined with that other, adult world, it sometimes becomes unpredictable and incomprehensible, but nevertheless, it continues to grow and change with the growing boy.

Many of those who are already fortunate to get acquainted with this work, note the barely discernible theme of loneliness in it. Against the backdrop of seemingly carefree summer bustle of adolescents, we involuntarily feel that a child who has lost a friend is terribly lonely, an adult can rely only on himself, and the old man is no longer able to change something in this fast-moving and ever-changing world, his Destiny is a simple contemplation of passing life.

It seems that Ray Bradbury is pushing his readers to the idea that loneliness is in fact no less than that of people on earth, and everyone has their own special loneliness. However, you should not be afraid of it, because In principle, it is foolish to fear the inevitable.
