How to clean gold to make it look like new

Having different products from precious metals, you periodically come up before the question of how to clean gold, silver or platinum, so that they look like new ones. Earrings, bracelets, chains, pendants and rings are heavily soiled during socks and lose their original shine. But we want our jewelry to shine as before. This can be achieved in only two ways:

  • Clean gold at home yourself.
  • Give the jewelry for cleaning to the workshop.

If your products have inserts made from natural pearls, precious stones or they have black or green spots, then the second option is preferable for you. Incorrect use of cleaning agents can damage precious stones and make natural pearls dull.

How to clean the gold at home, you must first of all know people with a predisposition to allergic reactions. After all, during the wearing of jewelry, they accumulate a large number of microorganisms in the form of a raid. Because of it, the products become dull and inconspicuous. Openwork ornaments get dirty much faster than smooth ones. Sweat, dust and dirt accumulate in the patterns. All dirt on jewelry can cause irritation to sensitive skin.

Simple tips will help you learn how to clean gold and get rid of plaque and dirt.

  • First you should wash the products in soapy water. For its preparation, a dishwashing liquid, detergent or antibacterial soap and water with a temperature of at least 50 degrees will perfectly suit. How can I clean gold in a given solution? We lower all the products in the finished solution and leave to limp for 1-2 hours. After this time, with the help of a toothbrush, carefully clean each product. We use brushes with soft bristles only. Otherwise, there is a possibility to scratch the product. Particular attention is paid to the openwork part, clasps and fastenings of stones on the decoration. In such hard-to-reach places, a dirty plaque is collected faster. After a thorough cleansing, we wash the decorations under a stream of cool water, dry it with a terry towel and polish it with a soft cloth.
  • You should know that jewelry is not made from pure gold. In the alloy, there must be silver or copper. The number of milligrams of pure gold can be recognized by looking at the sample of the product. Any alloy tends to oxidize. From this, stains appear on the products. Therefore, you need to know how to clean gold with chemicals. For this purpose, an ammonia solution (ammonia) is suitable . You can buy it at any pharmacy. We raise the ampoule with ammonia water so that its concentration is not less than 25 percent. In the prepared solution add all the jewelry and leave for several hours. When ammonia and copper or silver oxides react, compounds that dissolve perfectly in plain water are obtained. After the time has elapsed, we take out the decorations from the solution, rinsed under a stream of running cool water, dried and polished with a soft cloth.
  • The mechanical method of purifying jewelry involves the use of various pastes. Their composition is diverse. The basis is vegetable oil, petroleum jelly or soap solution. As abrasive particles, a powder of white magnesia, trepel, lead carbonate or corundum is added to the base. A professional paste for cleaning jewelry can be bought at specialized workshops or a jewelry salon. This method of cleaning is used in case of inefficiency of the first two. If, after washing and treatment with ammonia, there are plaque or stains on the product. We put a small amount of paste on a soft cloth and clean the product, moving in one direction. After cleansing, we wash the dressing with water, dry it and polish it.

Do not use for this type of cleaning soda, tooth powder and cleaning paste for kitchen utensils. These mixtures contain large particles that can spoil the appearance of the decoration, scratching it. With this treatment, the weight of the decoration decreases, since the upper layer of gold is blurred.
