How to choose and how to use a torque wrench?

According to many novice drivers, the best tool for wheel replacement is the balonnik. But sometimes on the road happen really unpredictable things and if the motorist does not screw up the nuts, they will simply unscrew and can crumble along the way. Then the wheel just fall off and the car will not go any further. And if this happened on the track at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour, the consequences can be unpredictable.

But it is also dangerous to strongly twist the bolts, because then the thread on the wheel can break and the same thing will happen as with undershot nuts. But what then? Fortunately, in the auto shops there is a tool that allows the driver to tighten the bolts so that they hold tight and at the same time do not tear off the thread. Today we will talk about how to use a dynamometric key and how to choose it correctly.

Types of keys

Today in shops you can see three kinds of such tools. These can be arrow, digital and snap variants. The answer to the question of how to use a dynamometric key, we'll find a little later, but for now, let's look at each of the above-described types of parts.

The first type is the cheapest option that can only be. But despite the low price, few of the motorists prefer this particular option. And the whole point is that the arrow dynamometric key (force) has a large error in the readings (9-10 percent). Therefore, its use in practice is comparable with the use of a conventional balonnik. Although the question of how to use the arrow-type torque wrench is set by a few motorists, since this spare part among all available options is the easiest to operate.

Snap variants have a smaller error than the first type. It is about 4 percent. You can buy a snap-type torque wrench in any specialized store, but its value will be slightly higher (the so-called "golden mean"). Also it is worth noting that snap options can be suitable not only for the usual car enthusiast, since using a dynamometric key of this type is not disdained by the employees of major service centers, and there is nothing wrong with this. Universality is another trump card of this device.

The most expensive and, accordingly, the most accurate keys are digital. Because of their high cost, they are not at all suitable for the average car owner, and an additional set of functions is unlikely to help better tighten the bolt on the wheel.

Based on this, it can be concluded that the best key for the Russian driver will be a snap. Due to the low error rate it is excellent for both ordinary motorists and owners of the service station. Ease of operation and high degree of reliability make this type of spare parts one of the most popular today in the world. And it's very easy to use - you just need to adjust the scale, first loosening the "stop-nut", and gradually rotate the handle until the device shows the maximum permissible rate.
