Gurzuf Park - a monument of landscape art

Crimea is famous for its natural beauty, warm climate and sea beaches. This is an amazing place where you can not only get well, but also have a great time. One of the adornments of the peninsula is the Gurzuf Park, which is located near the resort village of Gurzuf.

Location

The park covers an area of 12 hectares. This corner of nature is located on the Black Sea coast, near the mouth of Avunda. The mountain river divided the magnificent park into two unequal parts. The north-east is small in size, but in its beauty and decoration takes a leading position. The main architectural structures and sanatoriums "Pushkino" and "Gurzufsky" are located on its territory. In the large part of the park there is a summer stage and a cinema, there are a lot of grounds for children and physical education.

Vegetation of the park

Gurzuf Park is a cultural and historical heritage of the Crimea. It collected more than 100 species of shrubs and trees. The main vegetation of the park is the coniferous species inherent in the subtropical climate, and valuable deciduous trees. The most unique species are:

  • Giant sequoias ;
  • Large-magnolia flowers;
  • Treelike yucca plant;
  • Evergreen cypress;
  • Several species of cedar: Lebanese, Atlas, Himalayan;
  • Sweet-smelling osmanthus;
  • Plant of the family of dogwood - aukuba;
  • Crimean incense;
  • Turgid pistachio;
  • Arbutus or arbutus.

Due to the huge variety of rocks, it was possible to create unsurpassed corners of nature, having a highly artistic design. Plant compositions in most cases represent plantations of homogeneous groups of deciduous and coniferous trees. They alternate with flower meadows and lawns of luscious green grass.

Olive grove is the highlight of the park. It stretches not far from the sea coast. Trees have a solid age, but, despite this, still bear fruit.

History of the park

Find out the history of creating the museum in the open air and enjoy the beauty of these places will help tour.

Gurzuf Park was created by the great-grandson of Cardinal Richelieu - Arman. In 1808, he purchased a plot of land, the area of which was about 40 hectares. During this period Duke Richelieu Arman occupies the post of mayor of Odessa (1803-1814), being in the rank of Governor-General of Novorossia. Visiting the South Coast and seeing the picturesque countryside by the bay, he falls in love with these regions. The Duke is building a two-story house, around which a beautiful Gurzuf Park is being broken.

The distinguished guests

Beautiful architectural structures with open spacious terraces, as well as magnificent landscapes of surrounding places created a cozy atmosphere for a full rest and unity with nature. The owner of the estate rarely visited the Crimean residence, so the building was rented from time to time.

Many people wanted to relax in such a picturesque corner, so they got into the house together with all their possessions, servants and guests. The family of Raevsky settled here in 1820. AS Pushkin came to the estate on the invitation to them. Being in exile, he spends a lot of time on the Crimean peninsula, working on his work "The Prisoner of the Caucasus." It is in these places that the idea to write the famous novel "Eugene Onegin" and the poem "The Fountain of Bakhchisarai" is born.

Now in the house of the Duke of Richelieu is a museum of Alexander Pushkin.

Small architectural structures

In addition to the picturesque nature, Gurzuf Park is decorated with small architectural forms: fountains and sculptural compositions. One of the most popular statues - a fountain made in the Baroque style, called the sculptural group "Goddess of the Night." There is an opinion that this composition is an exact copy of the work of the German sculptor Berger, which was presented at the Vienna International Fountain Exhibition. The sculpture embodies the elements of antiquity. Nyukta - this is the name of the goddess of the night, appears as a naked girl holding a torch over her head. Followed by her follows Hypnos (the patron of sleep) and the ancient Greek Eros (the god of love).

In the central part of the composition is a ball, which is girded with zodiacal signs, which is a symbol of the universe. At the bottom of the sculptural group are located caryatids and atlantes, which support the ball with their shoulders. In one hand they hold a fish, from the mouth of which beats a fountain, symbolizing silence.

Another notable sculpture is the sculpture "Bathers". It is believed that the image of a naked girl is borrowed from the great Rembrandt (picture "Susanna, caught by the old man").

The fountain "Rachel" is created for biblical reasons. The sculpture is depicted as a woman holding a pitcher over her head.

If you like cultural rest, you should definitely visit Gurzuf Park.
