"Garage" (Gorky Park) - a wonder museum of contemporary art

Modern art in order to get acquainted with the man in the street, constantly looking for new forms, opportunities. One of such ultramodern ways of presentation of creativity of artists, sculptors and simply creatively thinking authors was the Garage museum in Gorky Park.

Here all the conditions are created for returning here again and again and each time finding something interesting for yourself.

History of creation: Bahmetian period

This museum appeared relatively recently - in 2008. The director is Anton Belov, the author of the idea is Daria Zhukova, who founded Garage (Gorky Park). Such a simple, at first glance, name arose not by chance. The first place of the museum's stay was the room where Bakhmetevsky bus garage previously housed. The latter was chosen for the reason that it itself also showed some historical value, being built as far back as 20 years of the previous century.

The garage is only a part of a large architectural ensemble called Bakhmetyevsky Bus Park and includes, besides the named one, also the building of the administrative building and the building, are monuments of Soviet times architecture .

Temporary building "Garage"

Later, in 2012, the museum changed its address. This time, the "Garage" museum in Gorky Park was chosen and settled in a temporary room created by Shigeru Bana.

The author of this extraordinary building is the winner of the most prestigious award in the world community of architects of the Pritzker Prize, and this time pleased not only with the original decision, but also with nonconventional materials for construction. The columns that formed the facade of the building were made of cardboard, paper and other raw materials.

"Garage" (Gorky Park), more precisely its temporary shelter, is an original room of an oval shape of six-meter height. The total area of the pavilion is 2.4 thousand square meters. There are also exhibitions, there is a cozy cafe and a shop with souvenirs.

New and permanent building

In 2015, the opening of a new pavilion of the museum "Garage" was held. Gorky Park has now become a permanent place for his dwelling. The new premises were created as a result of the reconstruction of the building of the restaurant "Four Seasons" in 1968.

The reconstructed building is a project of the famous Dutch master of architecture Rem Koolhaas. The author tried to preserve the features of the interior design of the restaurant. There were chips and fragments covered with tiles, elements of brickwork of such a distant Soviet era. That is why he calls the work done a careful reconstruction, as a result of which such a "Garage" has turned out in Gorky Park.

The photo shows that the architect created something incredible outside. The architecture of the building, created on the basis of glass and transparent plastic, is an incredible sight, and it seems that it dissolves in space. Reflected in the walls of the building, clouds and sky make it soaring high.

The entrances to the building were originally made. They, like cargo hatchways, rise and open a place for access to a wide variety of projects, ideas, their authors and, of course, museum visitors. Through the glass walls there is a huge canvas, created especially for the "Garage" by the modern artist Eric Bulatov. The whole territory, covering three floors, is 5,4 thousand square meters.

Not just a museum

Today, the notion of this concept has changed a lot. The artifacts that are frozen under glass are disappearing, they can only be looked at, half-dead silence of the halls, slippers at the entrance and a boring voice of the guide.

The modern concept of museum expositions is completely different. Exhibits can not only be seen live, but also to feel. And in a number of expositions they even offer to touch, play with objects presented to the attention of visitors. All these transformations allowed the founders of "Garage" not only to radically change the idea of the museum as such, but also to transform the very concept of presenting contemporary results of creativity.

Now it is not only the institution that stores the exhibits. The Museum of Contemporary Art "Garage" in Gorky Park is a new space that not only introduces the expositions, but also gives an idea of what contemporary Russian art is. The authors of the project also see their main mission as rendering support to the beginning artists and increasing the prestige of the national culture as a whole.

In addition to the exhibitions, MCK Garage (Gorky Park) allows its visitors to enjoy communication with contemporary art, some of the latest achievements in science and technology, and also spend a great time here with family or friends. In the "Garage" you can take photos, participate in various master classes, personally create movies, pictures or something else.
