Foreign comedies of the 80-90s: the list of the best

Comedy comedy is a subgenre of cinematography, the subject of which are the phenomena of the aesthetic subspecies of the comic. Its distinctive feature is a hyperbolized image of various vital inconsistencies that evoke the audience's laughter.

Comedy films are films with a predominantly humorous or satirical component that are not just entertained, but charged with an impressive portion of positive, cheer up. "Black" humor is also quite actively used in the paintings of the designated genre, attracting a certain category, which is able to appreciate it in its dignity. There are pictures of "for all times", which are revised more than once, over which people are laughing all over the world. However, at times the picture, released in the rental, is highly appreciated in its country, but not understood by foreign audiences. The humor of the inhabitants of different states has its own national peculiarities. Thus, conditional labels appeared that divided humor into "English," "American," and so on.

Comedy in Hollywood

Hollywood still holds the brand of the main installer of new trends in the world cinema. During the 80's and 90's, Hollywood filmmakers finally and irrevocably destroyed the direction of classic comedies in the undisputed benefit of radical skepticism and a liberal view of established traditional American virtues. These changes were accompanied by changes in the status of comedy movies. The foreign comedies of the 1980s and 1990s began to appeal to the less "ideologized" members of American society.

New Hollywood Film Combinations

The classical American industry created comedies exclusively for evening leisure. Classical films were addressed primarily to the hyperbolized problems of American society, perhaps that is why some foreign comedies of the 80-90's are incomprehensible to the domestic audience. In the "golden age" of Hollywood, the creators-owners of large studios forged an American dream, brought the entire nation through film projects. But since the 1980s, the "new" Hollywood has become the dominant trend in the world cinema market, which led to the formation of multi-corporations. In the era of modern Hollywood, foreign comedies of the 80-90s are produced, which are incredibly difficult to comprehend as a "textual" and cultural object. These paintings, with their sensitivity to European influence, can be interpreted as approaching American cinema to postmodernism.

Bet on director's style

Unlike modernism, which exalts the high, unique style, the artistic ideal of avant-garde art, it is unambiguously rejected by postmodernism. Despite the fact that the "new" Hollywood 80-90-ies had an unambiguous installation for blockbusters, some directors managed to keep their unique director's style. Especially well demonstrated by his fantastic comedies of the 80-90's. Foreign writers in this sub-genre are still leading:

  • "Ghostbusters".
  • "Back to the Future".
  • "Death to her face."
  • "Junior".
  • "Nutty Professor."
  • "Flabber."
  • "My favorite Martian."
  • "The Knight of Camelot."
  • "Men in Black".

Pastish

Individual directors (like Brian De Palma or Steven Spielberg) still adhered to the classic "storytelling" in style, but they were an exception to the rules. The foreign comedies of the 80-90s are a pure water pastern. In them, instead of the modernist style, there is only a post-modernist touch. Pastish is a clear imitation of uniqueness, that is, the use of linguistic masks, but, unlike parodies, it cancels a satirical stimulus, it is ironic. Pastish realized himself through nostalgic films, for example, the Christmas foreign comedies of the 80-90s:

  • "Swap places".
  • "Christmas Holidays".
  • "Santa Claus", "Miracle on the 34th Street."
  • "Alone at home".
  • "One house-2".
  • "A gift for Christmas."
  • "The family is for rent."
  • "I'll be home by Christmas."

Stylistic innovation

Postmodernism destroyed the classical attitude to the narrative in favor of citations, but the filmmakers did not abandon the strong plot, complementing it with the stylistic innovations of European cinematography. It was just such comedies of the 80-90's. Foreign film critics give as an example of a picture with the inimitable Jim Kerry:

  • The Cableman.
  • "Liar, liar."
  • "Ace Ventura 1, 2" (1993, 1995).
  • "Dumb and Dumber".
  • "Mask".

Countercultural Utopia

Representatives of the "new" Hollywood created their largely romantic "countercultural" utopia. But it was short-lived, because in the late 90-ies Hollywood entered the beginning of the era of globalization, which did not leave room for the romanticism of single directors. Therefore, listing the old foreign comedies of the 80-90s, the philistine rather remembers an epic called "Police Academy" (all 7 parts, 1984-1994) than "Batteries are not attached" (1984).

European Film Industry

The oldest cinema in the world is the European one. In Europe itself, of course, he is inferior to the American in popularity, but film critics give their preference to him. European film schools consider academic, like most films, although it does not do without commercial box-office films. Often European cinema is sponsored by the state, unlike the American one.

French films of the 80-90s

Foreign comedies, shot by French directors, in terms of artistic value are not inferior to the American ones. The difference is only in entertainment. The 80-90s in French cinema were marked by the peak of popularity of the theatrical troupe Le Splendid, which had a resounding success on the world cinema screens. "The backbone" of this group were legends of the French film industry: Michel Blanc, Christian Clavier, Marie-Anne Schazel, Thierry Lermitt, Gerard Junot and Josian Balasco. On their account more than 20 comic films, half of which were in this time period. In this period, the duet of Patrice Leconte and Francis Weber, who created the unique Gerard Depardieu and the unrivaled Pierre Richard, is activated. Tired of creating Gerard Uri and Claude Zidi. But more fortunate, happy and fruitful periods fall in the first half of the 80s. Then the best French comedies of the 80s and 90s were released. Foreign (listed above), especially American, could not compete with them in the charm and uniqueness:

  • 1981 - "Impeccable reputation", "Cool girls".
  • 1982 - "Father Frost-frostbite", "Assholes on vacation".
  • 1983 - "The African", "The Return of the Insane Recruits", "Papas".
  • 1984 - "Adventurers", "Gemini".
  • 1985 - "The Wedding of the Century".
  • 1986 - "Fugitives".

Comedies of Germany

In the nineties German cinema gradually began to "go out of fainting", in which it remained from the beginning of the seventies. For a long time after the Second World War, Germany could not (although trying to) clean the term "national" from the siege of National Socialism. The state dragged itself through an exhausting period of denial, controversy and consensus. It escaped from this meat grinder with an eerie feeling of guilt and dislike. Resurrected the "Berlin School of Cinema", which at that time became a monument to a sleepy post-industrial Europe. Literally on the fingers you can count the German comedies of the 80-90s. Foreign, the list of which is given in this publication, was preferred not only by the world community, but also by German audiences:

  • "The Solar Alley" (1999).
  • "Oh, this Bob" (1999).
  • "The darling of fate" (1988).
  • "Cleaner" (series, 1980-2008).

Swedish comedies of the 80-90's

In 80-90-ies in Sweden, as in the rest of the world, the recession of attendance by the audience of cinemas continued. But the genre of comedy remained quite popular and in demand. During this period, films such as "My Dog's Life" (1985), "The Adventures of Picasso" (1980), "Leif" (1987) and "Charter Flight" (1980) are available for hire. At this time in Sweden there are female directors: Marie-Louise Ekman, Marianne Arne and Susanne Austen. Thanks to their efforts, a considerable portion of romanticism and sensuality is added to the subgenre. Otherwise for the Swedish film industry of this period of time, artistic instability is characteristic, several large film companies are ruined. Initially, videobook, after the proliferation of cable and satellite television, the film industry in Sweden seriously undermined. Simultaneously, cooperation between television and film companies was becoming ever closer.

The period of decline of Italian cinema

At the same time, Italy also began an inexorable decline in the popularity of cinematography, which lasted until the beginning of this century. The legend of cinema, Fellini, creates the last masterpiece "The Voice of the Moon" (1990), the master Bertolucci switches exclusively to international projects famous outside the state, the Taviani brothers continue to create in the historical and ideological direction, Ettore Scola presents to the world the film "Family" ( 1986). The only one who continues to work on comedy films is Pupi Avati, his works "Christmas gift" (1986) and "School walk" (1983) belong to the category "Youth comedies of the 80-90s". Foreign directors immediately take over his experience, and in the cinema stands subgenre. By the end of the 1990s, Italian comedies acquired the "cabaret" features inherent in successful television projects, most of them were produced by the "comic troika" - unsurpassed Aldo, Giovanni & Giacomo: "Such is Life" (1998), "Three Men and a Foot" ( 1997) and others.

Free English cinema

A new wave of English cinema, called independent, or free, was provoked by a group of "angry". In the 80 years they put forward their theory of art. With their works, ardent devotees of the new wave offered the viewer to look at the life of the British from the standpoint of critical realism, to be interested in the present, and not the past. In the film cinematography and in a few comedies during this period, the protest against reality was more harsh: "Features of a bachelor party" (1994), "Punktik" (1986).
