For what are the glass-magnesium sheets used?

Every year the market of building materials is replenished due to new developments of manufacturers, which represent a variety of types of raw materials. At the same time, it can be noted that with the development of technologies, the quality of products has significantly improved. In addition, the appearance of modified elements and completely innovative methods of processing and production methods allows to obtain raw materials for construction with characteristics significantly better than previous products. Such products include glass-magnesium sheets, the use of which has been the most widespread recently.

What is a glass-magnesium sheet?

The glass-magnesium sheets (SML) are plates consisting of two layers:

  • The outer layer (on both sides of the sheet) is made of a fiberglass mesh, which gives the strength and durability of the material to various mechanical loads.
  • The inner layer consists of a filler (chloride and magnesium oxide, perlite) - environmentally friendly substances with antiseptic properties, which prevents the destruction of the structure and the appearance of fungal formations and mold.

Application of the material

Glass-magnesium sheets are used already in many countries of Europe and Asia. Wide use is due to excellent material characteristics, such as environmental friendliness, strength and resistance to various types of impacts (temperature changes, chemical reactions, etc.).

Apply LSU in the construction of premises for various purposes (industrial, residential and similar). This building material is used in the "dry" type of installation works, which significantly reduces the time costs. In this case, LSU can act as an alternative version of the following materials:

  • Gypsum plasterboard waterproof,
  • Gypsum fiber sheet,
  • Particleboard and fiberboard,
  • OSB boards,
  • Flat slate,
  • Plywood.

It can also be noted that the products come on sale with the already polished surface, that is, there is no need to prepare a glass-magnesium sheet. The use of finishing materials is not limited, it is possible to use all kinds of design:

  • Tiles (ceramic, mirror and glass),
  • Wallpaper,
  • Aluminum-composite panels ,
  • Veneer,
  • Plastic.

Mounting of LSU

The glass-magnesium sheets are usually produced in standard sizes - length 2.4 m, width 1.2 m and thickness 8 mm. In this case, the underside of the surface is considered to be the back side. This kind of building materials can be fastened to both metal and wooden structures (by means of screws), and to surfaces made of synthetic materials, such as polystyrene, foam plastic (adhesive is used for the connection).

Installation work can be carried out in the following order:

  1. Installing the crate. It is important to remember when using vertical surfaces (walls) about the distance between the posts: it should be 0.6 m. The ceiling is to be installed with load-bearing profiles, which are set at intervals of 0.4 m.
  2. Soundproofing. On the back side of the wall profile, you can stick a tape to prevent the penetration of noise.
  3. In the case of self-tapping screws and screws, the holes for them must first be made with a drill.
  4. Mounting can be carried out both in the transverse direction and in the longitudinal direction. In this case, it is better to make horizontal seams with an interval of at least 0.6 m. The distance between LSU is from 3 to 5 mm, it is better to start the fastening from the center of the sheet in steps of 0.2 m.

The qualitative execution of works in the construction of residential and other types of premises will ensure the use of such material as glass-magnesium sheet. Its installation is quite simple, if you follow the rules of assembly.
