Famous monuments of architecture of Russia

Architectural monuments of Russia, ranging from majestic palaces and cathedrals with a thousand-year history and ending with modern buildings, amaze tourists with originality and brilliance. Rare city of the Russian Federation can not boast of an ancient temple, a rich castle, a quaint house or an unusual bridge. However, there are masterpieces that you just can not help admiring!

Intercession Cathedral

Ancient monuments of architecture of Russia are first of all magnificent temples. The Intercession Cathedral was able to become famous throughout the world due to its uniqueness and unusualness. The structure has the form of an ensemble formed by nine pillar-shaped churches (independent). All of them are located on the same sub-base (foundation), are united by inner and outer galleries.

The cathedral, included in the list of the largest Russian historical and architectural museums, is in the "heart" of the capital - on the territory of Red Square. The majestic church was erected on the orders of Ivan the Terrible in the middle of the 16th century, nowadays it is known as St. Basil's Cathedral. The richness of the image was the result of the game of creators with two materials: white stone and brick. The variety of decor, which is distinguished by many famous monuments of architecture of Russia, is achieved due to several types of brick processing profiles used in different combinations.

Saint Isaac's Cathedral

Even the guests of St. Petersburg, who were on the territory of the "second capital" passing through, must certainly visit the St. Isaac's Cathedral. The grandiose construction in its present appearance was erected in 1818-1858, based on a project developed by the architect Auguste Montferrand. However, like many other architectural monuments of Russia in the 19th century, the cathedral has a longer history that begins with a small church founded in the early 18th century. The temple is one of the largest domed buildings on the planet, the diameter of the dome is 21.8 meters, more than 100 kg of gold was spent on its creation.

Tourists are attracted not only by an intricate dome painting depicting biblical scenes, rich interior decoration of the cathedral - valuable marble, malachite, lapis lazuli, gilding. A high colonnade is one of the main reasons for the popularity of the temple. Using a narrow spiral staircase, you can find yourself at a height of 43 meters and enjoy the unique views of St. Petersburg.

Unusual bridges

Architectural monuments of Russia include original bridges built not only in the past centuries, but also in our days. The whole world knows about the existence of the Dancing Bridge in Volgograd. The building earned its nickname in 2010, when as a result of the wind load there was a swaying. Despite the considerable amplitude of the oscillations (about one meter), the pavement and supports have maintained their integrity. Safety of the bridge was achieved with the help of special shock absorbers.

Admire the Krasnoyarsk communal bridge, which is one of the symbols of Siberia, you can not only when visiting the city, but also looking at a bank note (10 rubles). The building was erected during the reign of Khrushchev, for a long period was considered the longest Asian bridge, the length is 2300 meters. The unique technology, to which the builders resorted, is interesting: the abandonment of safety belts.

Manezhnaya square

Manezhnaya square, which can not be ignored, listing the monuments of architecture of Russia, is considered the first bright masterpiece of the famous Tsereteli in Moscow, is located near the Kremlin walls, borders the Historical Museum and the Alexander Garden. Manege, erected in 1817, until the 30-ies of the last century was "framed" by urban dense buildings. The liberation of the square occurred in 1932 in connection with the construction of the metro.

Grandiose construction on the square began only in the early 90's. Was created "Okhotny Ryad", which became the first Moscow trading complex, located underground. Also under the guidance of Tsereteli, a dazzling cascade of fountains with huge horses, illumination and cozy benches was seen. From this moment Manezhnaya Square is perceived as a continuation of the Alexander Garden.

Winter Palace

The Hermitage is rightfully considered one of the most magnificent buildings of St. Petersburg, a colorful example of the dawn of the magnificent baroque, many noteworthy architectural monuments of Russia of those times. The palace structure, which left far behind other buildings of the northern capital due to its beauty and size, was created by the architect Rastrelli and was planned as the residence of Russian tsars.

The construction, which eclipsed other Russian architectural monuments of the 18th century, occupies a huge area, currently includes the Hermitage Theater, the Old, the New, the Small Hermitage. In fact, construction continued from 1764 to 1852. Each facade is unlike the others, as the creators took into account the peculiarities of the terrain. The Winter Palace has the form of a rectangle, has an internal (front) courtyard, angled projections.

Kolomna Palace

Many architectural monuments of Russia in the 17th century not only survived the reconstruction, but were restored from scratch. This list includes the Kolomna Palace, which had the appearance of an intricate system of wooden cages (rooms) combined with transitions. Its creators were Russian architects Petrov and Mikhailov, attracted to work the most outstanding capital masters of the time.

The structure, thanks to luxurious exotic decor (gilded leather, ceiling and wall paintings of biblical paintings, woodcarving) enthralled foreign guests, stood the century and was destroyed in 1767. The preserved layout allowed to restore the chic building in Moscow.

Novodvinsk Fortress

In the era of Peter the Great, many interesting architectural monuments of Russia were erected. The list includes the Novodvinsk fortress, which became the pride of Russian soldiers, which aroused the fear of foreigners. After surviving many bloody battles, the building was partially preserved.

In the northern zone of Russia this is the first structure that has become a bastion-type fortress. The architectural style is Dutch, examples of such structures are found in Europe and America. The fortress has the form of a square structure, includes four bastions, the distance between which is about 120 meters.

Annunciation cathedral

One of the most interesting buildings in Voronezh - the Annunciation Cathedral, created by the architect Shevelev. The temple belongs to the Russian-Byzantine direction, its history is associated with the year of foundation of the city - 1586. Originally the building was wooden, rebuilt many times. The destruction of the cathedral happened during the Great Patriotic War.

Like other architectural monuments of Russia, photos of which are given above, the church was restored (in 1998). Now the cathedral is located elsewhere, belongs to a slightly different style, the interior decoration is modified. As before, the temple fascinates with its dimensions, not lost even against the background of giant modern skyscrapers. Its height is 85 meters.

Of course, this is not all the bright monuments of Russia's architecture, which are worth visiting at least once.
