Dog Breed Dog Species: Description

Let's try to understand which dogs are considered wolfhounds and why. Wolfhounds are called dogs of very large breeds. This is a collective, generalized name for animals, which are distinguished first and foremost by very large sizes, strength, fearlessness and the ability to engage with a predator to protect the owner, domestic animals, pastures and the territory protected by them. They must be faithful to their master and obediently obey all his commands. The breeds of wolfhound dogs are distinguished by strength and endurance.

Dog wolfhounds

The most common breeds of dog wolfhounds are:

  • Irish Wolfhound;
  • Caucasian breed of wolfhounds;
  • The Russian Greyhound;
  • The Armenian gampra;
  • Bavarian Riesen Schnauzer;
  • Buryat-Mongolian wolfhound;
  • South Russian Shepherd;
  • Kirghiz hound of the Taigan breed;
  • Kazakh greyhound of the Tazy breed;
  • Pyrenean mountain dog, or Pyrenean wolfhound;
  • Alabai is great.

Nuances of the breed

Each breed has its own distinctive features, but combines them one - they are all very large in size. The height at the withers in wolfhounds is not less than 70 centimeters, they can weigh up to 80 kilograms and more. Such breeds of dogs were obtained in different ways.

Alabai is a great friend

We examined the characteristics of large dogs. As you can see, there are a variety of breeds of dog wolfhounds. Alabai, for example, was bred by folk selection. In this breed, the blood of Tibetan dogs and fighting dogs of Mesopotamia flows. The nomads who brought this breed lived in difficult conditions, they needed dogs capable of ruthlessly destroying a predator, reliably guarding caravans, parking lots, pets and dwellings.

Dogs should have been hardy, able to travel long distances. Sometimes they were even used for the transport of goods. This huge dog is hard to train. In a neutral territory, it observes loyalty to people and other animals, but on its territory it is always ready to engage in battle if it feels even the slightest danger to the owner or the protected area. Keep the house of such a wolfhound can only experienced dog breeders.

Friendly Dogs

There is an interesting breed. Irish Wolfhound, in contrast to Alabai, on the contrary, is very friendly. Brought this breed specifically to protect the flock of sheep, they are considered the best shepherds. Irish wolfhound likes to play with children. He does not tolerate loneliness at all and tries constantly to be close to people. It is easy to train. To other dogs is friendly, the fights do not suit. During walks she does not like, when adults and children wander around in different directions and actively try to collect all together.

Irish wolfhound can easily keep even inexperienced in dog breeding owners. But in urban apartments it is not worth keeping. But for people living in country houses, an Irish wolfhound can be the best dog for both protecting the house and for socializing.

From these examples it is clear that each breed of wolfhounds appeared not accidentally. The conditions in which people lived, forced them to bring out the breed of dogs they needed. It was the breed that was ideal for specific conditions. And it was not a whim. These were vital circumstances. The history of each breed is interesting in its own way and instructive.

Gampr - who is this?

A powerful and strong dog, for a long time it was considered a kind of Caucasian shepherd of the Armenian type. Gampra is a dog that requires special attention. Following the history of the Armenian wolfhound, the scientists were convinced that this breed was formed in the first centuries BC and played a positive role in the life of the Armenian people. In honor of gampers in Armenia, even a postage stamp has been issued. And this is not accidental, because the breed is indigenous, that is, local, tied to a specific territory, in this case to Armenia.

The nature of gampra is very interesting. He decides whether to be friends with him and his family members or not. If the dog takes offense at the master, then he will ignore him for a long time. More owners of gampre (dog) love his children and family members. He protects them first. If the gampee protects the herd, then first of all it protects the young, goat or lamb, and only then rushes to the protection of adult animals.

In the service of man

Caucasian wolfhound is rightly considered a service dog. He is able to conscientiously carry out guard duty, so he is often called a guard dog. Very distrustful of outsiders, does not take anything from other people's hands, will starve for a long time until the owner feeds him. The Caucasian wolfhound is better known as the Caucasian Shepherd. So most often it is called in our country.

The Caucasian (dog) is well trained and is considered one of the cleverest four-legged friends of a person. The most vulnerable place in the Caucasian wolfhound is ears, fighting with a predator, the dog instinctively protects them. For this reason, they are usually banned.

In urban apartments, they prefer to keep sheep-dogs with short wool, but this is already a matter of taste of the owners. In the country houses you can keep any Caucasians, they are excellent guards. The history of the appearance of the Caucasian wolfhound breed has not been fully established. There are several versions. But the main thing is that during the conquest of the Caucasus, sheep dogs were actively involved in the protection of fortresses. It is possible that they were brought to the Caucasus from other places, but they came to Russia from the Caucasus.

Bavarian Wolfhound

It is not worthwhile opposing wolfhound breeds to each other. And if you do not like one breed, then look at others. You can really like the Bavarian wolfhound. The breed is called a risen schnauzer, that is, a giant schnauzer. The hosts often call him just rizen. It is simply impossible not to love this dog. The Giant Schnauzer is very beautiful. Outwardly, it can resemble a curly poodle, but only very large. However, the comparison with the poodle, probably, is incorrect. His coat is stiff, dense, with stroking reminiscent of wire. The long coat on the muzzle closes his eyes, which gives the impression that the dog slyly smiles and wants to say something kindly. The color of the dog's fur is often purely black, but there is a mixed black and white color called "pepper and salt." This is a very noble breed. The wolfhound is distinguished by loyalty and restraint.

Homeland Risenschnauzer is Germany, more precisely the land of Bavaria and Württemberg. The character of the dog is just wonderful. Sometimes it seems that she is able to think like a person, and take deliberate, measured decisions. The dog is very devoted to his master. It is distinguished by special diligence, strength, endurance, prudence, ability to restrain emotions. Appearance of the Riesenschnauzer evokes rather a sense of respect than fear, so he is a reliable defender, which is better avoided than triggered by a conflict.

Reliable guard

Buryat-Mongolian wolfhound is an aboriginal breed of dogs, which was formed in the territory of modern Buryatia, Mongolia and the regions close to them. This is a real wolfhound, able to resist predators and protect the owners. The dog is well adapted to the habitat, unpretentious, resistant to diseases. Especially beautiful this dog is difficult to call, rather - on the contrary. She looks like a stray dog. But her soul is kind. Dog Wolfhound is not accidental when Buddhist monasteries were considered sacred animals.

The dog is well adapted to protecting herds of livestock, camels and host dwellings. True, she can not graze pets, but she is a reliable guard, a companion and a bodyguard. In addition, the Mongolian-Buryat wolfhound has the ability to find a person during emergency situations, which has saved a large number of people from death. Thus, this wolfhound can be considered not only a reliable guard, defender, skilful hunter, but also a good rescuer.

Some greyhounds are perceived as breeds of dog-wolfhounds, in particular Russian hound greyhound, Kyrgyz hound, and the Kazakh hound greyhound. Such dogs are considered hunting. They can only drive a wolf, bring a hunter to him. But with a young predator, thanks to their size, courage and strength, they are able to cope easily, so they are considered full wolfhounds.

Breeding

The breeding of such serious dogs is not an easy matter, whatever the breed. Wolfhound requires special attention and control. You just need to understand that any female will instinctively protect her cubs. And if the size of this female is commensurate with the dimensions of the calf, then the consequences of human contact with the mother of the wolfhound puppies can be very sad for him. Werewolves are usually raised in special nurseries. At home, only experienced dog breeders can breed dogs. Buy puppies better in specialized institutions.

Puppies Wolfhound

Educate them immediately, as soon as they were taken away from their mother. Please note that during the first days of the puppies' life the mother managed to give them the very first experience of survival. And the kitten will be guided by this experience, instinctively defending its right to life. But the owner of the puppy must establish himself as a leader, to make it clear that he is the main one.

Check the puppy is very simple. It is enough to pick up dishes with food from a hungry beast. Instinctively, the puppy must protect his food. And if he growls and even rushes to the master, trying to beat off the food, then there is clearly no contact. But if the pup is obediently inferior to the food of the owner, then he unequivocally recognizes him as a leader. This means that the owner received a loyal friend, a reliable defender and a devoted companion. But different breeds of dog-wolfhounds are different. You need to behave with them very carefully.

Eating small dogs

Feed the puppies properly. In their diet must be present meat, containing proteins, as well as everything that contains carbohydrates, essential minerals and vitamins. Food should be given in small portions, but often so that the puppy does not inflate and he does not have problems with the tummy. Feeding wolfhound puppies is, in principle, possible and dry food, but only if this food is made by well-known and reliable producers. And this feed should be designed for feeding puppies of giant breeds. The use of the product for ordinary puppies and dogs will result in the wolfhound growing up underdeveloped.

An adult dog can be fed 2 or 3 times a day. But remember, the volumes of food that the dog absorbs are not at all small, but they can not be reduced. Fresh clean water in wolfhounds should be necessary and permanent. It is the quality of water that can cause some ailments and wolfhound diseases.

A wolfhound dog is first and foremost a human friend, his assistant, guard and companion. It can not be taken into the house just to play, and then discarded. If you decide to have a wolfhound at home, then you need to realize the full measure of responsibility that you take on yourself. These dogs will not tolerate a disregard for themselves. And it does not matter, the Caucasian is a dog or a huge alabai. The main thing is to love and respect your pet. Then he will also reciprocate.
