He spent all his childhood and youth in his native Germany, but after graduating from high school, he went to receive higher education in the United States. He enters the Columbia Film School, located directly in Hollywood. There he studied the art of filmmaking, and quite successfully.

His first attempt to create his own film was made back in 1993, when the short film Heaven! Was published, which was not officially translated into Russian. The total length of the tape was 45 minutes.

Among the most successful and well-known paintings to which he put his hand as a film director, one can single out such films as "Time Traveler's Wife" (2008), "RED" (2010) and "Illusion of Flight" (2005), which was withdrawn He was the first after moving from Germany to the United States. The film features the well-known actress Jodie Foster.

These three films are quite a success with the audience, and professional critics are highly appreciated by many of his films.

In addition to full-length cinematographic films, Robert Schwentke is the director of the sensational series "Deceive me" (2009-2011), where the main role was played by the famous actor Tim Roth.
