Different sizes of pupils - anisocoria. Symptoms and Treatment

Often many parents notice that the child has a different size pupil. Although it looks very strange and looks like some serious deviation, there is usually nothing to worry about.

This phenomenon is called anisocoria. The difference in pupils may be of different origin, but it is very good that anisocoria is often physiological in nature. This means that the pupils differ by a maximum of 1 mm, and it does not matter whether you look at them in the light or in the dark. If the pupils change their size, then this pathological anisocoria, and there is already something to worry about.

Different sizes of pupils are the most common causes.

The first. Anisocoria can be transmitted by inheritance. If any of your family members have this, then there is no cause for concern - this is a genetic abnormality that does not cause harm. And, after inquiring from relatives, you will find out that this also does not interfere.

The second. Everyone knows that the pupils react to light: the more light, the narrower the pupil (the protective property that protects our eyes from harmful radiation entering it). If the muscles that control the dilatation of the pupil are not working properly, then we can observe anisocoria.

The third. If you often use eye drops, this too can lead to a change in the size of the pupils. Any medicine that gets into the eye affects it in its own way. Medications for asthma, inhalers and other substances in this case are undesirable.

The fourth. Inflammation of the pupil or shell of the eye, another abnormality in this area. The defeat of the optic nerve, which does not give information about the intensity of the light stream entering the eye.

Fifth. Different sizes of pupils can be a sign of damage to the cerebral hemispheres or / and brainstem, and may also indicate abnormalities in the spinal cord and other problems in this area.

The sixth. Of course, you can not be 100% sure that the difference you found is not post-traumatic. The child himself could strike himself or accidentally hit a dull object (the disease begins to develop after the impact on the hard blunt surface). The whole life of the child can not be controlled, so consult a doctor.

If the pupil's pupils are of different sizes, then let him be examined by a doctor who will reveal the exact cause of the disease, because there are a huge number of them. It's almost impossible to diagnose yourself. Do not self-medicate with traditional medicine - this is not the case! Vision is much more expensive! Moreover, this is often a sign of other pathologies. If you notice the pupils' different pupils in time, many serious problems can be avoided.

Anisocoria is sometimes accompanied by a violation of the visual function: images become vague, a double vision may appear, it may sharply darken in the eyes. If you run this question, you can lose sight completely. Nausea, vomiting and dizziness also often accompany anisocoria.

What if the pupils have different sizes?

The most important thing for any eye disease is to go to the oculist. Spots of chamomile in this case will not help. If the diagnosis of the doctor does not succeed, then you will need to pass several tests. I repeat that anisocoria can be a symptom of very serious diseases, so it is dangerous to let the disease go free swimming.

Analyzes can be the following: analysis of blood and cerebrospinal fluid, it will be good to conduct CT of the head to exclude the appearance of anisocoria due to problems with the brain, EEG, MRI, X-ray of the neck.

Having ascertained the cause of the disease, the doctor will prescribe the treatment (most likely in the hospital). Take the course of treatment in good faith and take good care of your health.

Health - this is what is given to us once and for life, take care of it.
