Derby in football

What is a derby in football, and where did this kind of competition come from?

1. History

According to one version, football derby borrowed its name from equestrian. According to another version, initially to play football at the regional level (between two parts of the city) began exactly in the city of Derby, which gave the name to this game meeting in football.

According to some sources, playing in a game similar to football in England was made during the Great Royal Carnival. Any resident of the city could participate in the game, there were no special rules, the game was spontaneous, and the main goal was to deliver the ball by any means to the specified places. The game took place near the river Dewent, and the "gateway" was considered a plant of monasticism in the north and a gallows for criminals in the south of the city.

The game was very cruel and more like fighting, which is quite typical for Shrovetide games. Often, such games ended in bruises, bruises, accidents and even fatal outcomes.

2. Modernity

Football derby is a match between rivals from one district or city. The real meaning of the word derby is "the game of neighbors".

Winning a local tournament is considered not less prestigious than participating in international competitions. Rivalry within one city always causes a strong desire to win and proudly represent the face of his city.

City matches are held in England, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Italy, Spain, Scotland and other countries.

The most famous players of neighboring matches are the Italian clubs Inter and Milan, the British Glasgow Rangers and Sentika, Manchester clubs (City and United), Roman rivals (Roma and Lazio). In Moscow, Moscow is known for the competitions of CSKA and Spartak football clubs and the matches of the irreconcilable enemies of the St. Petersburg Zenit and the Moscow Dynamo.

In some countries, the term "derby" is replaced by "classic" or "superclassic".

Strange as it may seem, but in the city where this football direction was born, its derby is no longer there. Both clubs ("County" and "Midland") were merged into a single one, which competes in another region. This football club is known until now, but besides the name of the derby tradition, it has not retained.
