Day of cinema: an event in the cultural life of the country

It is gratifying to see that in addition to political, religious and traditional holidays, there is a place in our life for those significant dates that are associated with art. Among such events is the International Cinema Day, which is traditionally celebrated on December 28.

The history of the holiday goes back to the distant 1895. It was then, on the evening of December 28, in Paris, a film premiere took place. In the "Grand Cafe" the famous Lumiere brothers at that time presented their "Cinematograph" apparatus, patented by them. With his help, the public was shown a short film. It is worth noting that on the first day of the cinema very few people gathered to observe the appearance of a new kind of art. Perhaps the film itself was not interesting (it was called "Exit of workers from the Lumiere factory"), or the brothers themselves did not inspire confidence in the public. Nevertheless, it was they who gave impetus to the development of a new art form, which these days is demonstrated on plasma panels in the widest, sometimes inaccessible to the human eye color range.

This picture was followed by the following: "Arrival of the train to the station of La Ciotat". During this short silent film the audience left their seats in a panic. They believed that the approaching train is real and can demolish everything in the district. This is how the Day of Cinema was remembered for those citizens who decided to learn this genre first. Soon, short sketches, which lasted several minutes, flew all over Europe. In Russia, cinema came in 1908. Then in St. Petersburg was filmed painting "Ponizovaya Volnitsa", which lasted 7 minutes.

Gradually the quality of the produced film and equipment, with the help of which films were made, grew. By the 20s of the last century the silent cinema reached the apotheosis of its development. One can say with complete certainty that then the cinematography captured the whole world: narrative pictures were shown in Europe, in Russia and in America. Approximately since then people have started to celebrate and Day of cinema. This was the most significant date for directors, actors and fans of the new art form. Cinemas were built with great speed, in which crowds began to walk in the cities.

In our country, the situation with the celebration has developed somewhat differently. For ideological reasons, the country's leadership decided that Soviet cinema can not celebrate its main holiday on a par with all other countries. In 1979, it was decided that the Day of Russian Cinema will now fall on August 27. Since then, all domestic actors, directors and their fans have paid a tribute to cinema on this particular day.

In the world, among the numerous nominations, parties in honor of the prime minister and other events, the Day of Cinema is also celebrated. 2013 was no exception, and a magnificent festival was held in Hollywood, as well as in cities where the film industry was developed. At such an event, there are no nominees and winners. Here everyone gathers only to remember how the first silent film was born, which gave rise to the greatest factory of dreams and a new kind of art.
