Data warehouse: device and areas of use

A data warehouse is a system that stores large amounts of information. It includes such components as stand-alone software (further - software), information storage (storage), as well as communication media. All this is a separate block.

Networked data storage is an integral part of a home or office LAN, designed to provide continuous access to personal or business information.

Consider in more detail the components of which any data store consists. Independent software organizes the recording, storage and delivery of information. Its basis is:
- internal operating system NAS;
- antivirus software;
- software that provides data exchange;
- Software for the organization of RAID-arrays, designed to improve the reliability of the system;
- other service software.

The means of information storage are a number of high-capacity hard drives (usually 3-5 pieces) located in one block. Since the operating system (hereinafter - OS) of the storage does not allow creating logical disks, i.e. The OS installed on one of the hard drives excludes it from the drive list, then a flash card or another solid state drive (the so-called SSD-drive) is used as the bootable media.
Communication tools are designed to determine the way in which the data warehouse will communicate with the user. Possible variants of connection mean:
- A wired connection using the TCP / IP protocol. In this case, the internal processor processes file requests to the level of the NAS OS commands. The permissible distance to the user is 10 km.
- Wireless connection, which is built using standard Wi-Fi technology and has a limitation on the power of transceiving devices, as well as overloading by means of information protection.
Networked data stores have an almost unlimited scope: from storing multimedia files to collecting information from CCTV cameras. The main advantage is that the information gets into the data store, bypassing the user processors. This is made possible by the internal processor, which processes it.
Thus, data warehouses have a number of advantages, most important of which is the ability to unload the hardware capacities of user computers from routine operations such as writing and reading large amounts of information, managing the execution and monitoring of network operations on the Internet or local area networks, playback and recording Multimedia files.
It is also worth noting that due to the fact that high-speed data transmission systems have now been developed in global networks, as well as systems for storing large amounts of information, special storage facilities have appeared-file hosting. Their essence lies in the provision of paid services: secure storage of information, structuring and retrieval of information. Some hosting services are used as intermediaries when buying / selling information.
It is obvious that all the uses of data warehouses will be further developed, each in its own market segment.
