Dagestan: flag and coat of arms, their history and meaning

Dagestan, whose flag will be described in this article, is a republic of the Russian Federation. The initial version of this state symbol was adopted in 1994. Subsequently, the cloth itself underwent some changes, and by 2003 they were officially fixed. Until that time, the country did not have its own symbols, since it was part of other state associations. So, with the existence of the Russian Empire, the peoples of the mountains were part of the Terek region, which used the state symbols of Russia.

Since 1919, it was part of the North Caucasus Emirate, along with the lands of the mountainous Chechnya and Ingushetia. The flag was a cloth with a width to length ratio of two to one, green, with a white crescent in the center and three stars above it of the same color.

It was a rectangular cloth. The ratio of its width and length was one to two, respectively. Horizontally placed colors were replaced in sequence from top to bottom:

• green;
• blue;
• red.

The cloth was used until 2003, until the changes to the state symbol of the Republic of Dagestan were adopted.

The modern version is a rectangular cloth. Color strips are of equal size and are located horizontally (in this respect, the flag of Dagestan and Russia are similar). Colors remain the same. The change has undergone a ratio of width and length, it has become two to three, respectively.

Next to it there is an image of a handshake, from which a ribbon passes in both opposite sides. It contains the inscription "Republic of Dagestan", made in white. The golden band is bordered by the upper part, and the lower one by two edges. The left side of the edge is blue, and the right side is red.
