Cyprus, Nicosia. The main city of two states

For a long time it beckons vacationers and simply traveling with its many and varied sights of the island of Cyprus. The capital of Nicosia,   Located in the center of this heavenly corner of the earth, hospitably welcomes all visitors.

The main city of the island can boast of its ancient and interesting history . Hellenes are excellent navigators, therefore in the third century BC they colonized the island of Cyprus. Nicosia appeared about the same time. However, On the latest archaeological excavations, scientists argue that this area was inhabited before. At least, one thing is for certain: the capital was built on the ruins of an ancient city-state called Ledra.

Today Nicosia is a modern lively city, which is famous for its beautiful parks, luxury hotels, museums, art galleries. And this is the optimal place for different Kind of conferences.

The island of Cyprus has long been known for its amazing nature.   Nicosia, whose attractions delight and fascinate, is also a very picturesque city.

The main architectural masterpieces are located inside the Venetian walls. They are characterized by a bizarre style, which bears the imprint of the influence of different peoples: Venetian, Frankish, Turkish. Cobbled streets narrow streets create a special atmosphere in which you forget about the flow of time. Not far from the main square, you can visit Laikiya Itonia - the ancient quarter, which preserved the original appearance of the beginning of the twentieth century.

In the museums of the city unique collections are collected that tell tourists about the history of the island, familiarize them with icon painting, folk art, painting of different periods. What else is the capital of Cyprus, Nicosia, proud of? First and foremost, the house of Hajigeorgakis Kornessios - a person who played a huge role in the history of relations between the Turkish authorities and the Greek community. Inside the building you will find a perfectly preserved environment of that time: magnificent carpets, marble columns in a connected Turkish-Byzantine style, and in the emerald garden there are an uncountable number of fountains.

Cyprus, Nicosia is a religious city, so you can visit the ancient temples, which impress the imagination with magnificent iconostases. Do not miss the church of Fanareni, Trypioti Chrysaliniotissa, St. John's Cathedral, St. Paul's Cathedral. Here you can not only enjoy the masterpieces of sacred art, but also pray, put a candle for health and just find peace of mind.

In addition to the above, I want to add that the island of Cyprus, Nicosia in particular, is also famous for the huge number of cozy cafes and shops.

As well as it is necessary to capital, Nicosia it is perfectly connected with other cities of Cyprus various kinds of transport. Therefore, we can safely consider it a good starting point for further expeditions. However, it is worth considering that the city is considered the capital of two states - the Republic of Cyprus and the unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and their border passes a green line exactly in the middle. For local residents, this is a painful reminder of the terrible conflicts that are happening on this soil, but for tourists it's another interesting sight. Which, however, may soon disappear, as there are active negotiations on this matter.
