Customize windows. How to create a local area network connection

With the development of network systems and technologies, it became possible to combine a group of distributed computers into a network and call it a common working name. For example, workgroup. Such a network can be called local.

Why do we need such a network

The local network allows you to transfer any large content between the network group members. Music, clips, documents and other data: all this can be exchanged over the network and offered in the so-called shared access.

Configurations for such networks can be many. Our task is to reveal how to create a connection over a local network using Windows tools.

First of all, I want to add a few words about this OS. Windows (windows) is a modern multi-user system with a graphical interface. The developer of the operating system is a large industrial corporation Microsoft (founder Bill Gates).

Communication with the computer occurs through dialogue "windows". Hence the name. And the connection to the Internet through a local network, and the very setting of it will be considered in the context of the software tools of Windows 7.

How to create a local area network connection

We create and configure a local network in the mentioned system. We will consider the simplest version, when only two PCs need to be connected by a cable. This requires a network cable with the type of "crossover". On such a connection, one of the cable ends is compressed in the reverse marking of the cable strands.

The second stage is to make sure that the type of cable corresponds to the connector for connection in your network cards. If so, you can proceed to configure the network at the software level. If not - carefully read the instruction manual for the network card, which type of cable can be connected there, and with cable marking.

Further we read the instruction how to create connection on a local network. For starters, a virtual workgroup is created for versions of Windows, which is called Workgroup by default (you can change the name to your own if necessary). This means that all computers on the local network are assigned a network name.

Now we will consider a special case, namely: how to create a connection over the local network of windows 7. The list of actions for this is listed below.
On the desktop or in the "Start" menu, find the "My Computer" icon.

Next, by activating the right mouse button, select the "properties" option in the appeared items. Now in the dialog box, select the "Computer name" tab. It assumes that you can enter or change the name for any computer on the local workgroup. Names, of course, for all hosts should be the same, so that each of them can be identified by another, entering the local network.

The main thing in windows 7 is "auto-catch" of the newly created network without restarting the PC. It happens that the restart is still needed if automatic recognition of the local connection does not work.

The next step of the configuration is through the control panel. There we select the label "Network and the Internet", then we find the "Control Center" and in it the tab "Setting up a new connection". In the opened window interface, the helper program will start. It will guide you through all steps of creating a standard connection, which will solve the problem of how to create a connection over a local network.

Algorithm for generating IP addresses in the local network space

The final step of the configuration is to assign each computer a unique numeric address - the IP address. For the assignment, the following data is usually used: the addresses begin in sequence with the value 192.168.0.1, then the last digit on each new host increases by one, i.e. The second PC address will be 192.168.0.2, the third one - 0.3, etc. Also it is necessary to form a network mask, by default its value is 255.255.255.0.

Thus, we considered the option of creating a local network through windows 7 and assigning unique IP to the network computers to uniquely identify each host.
