Moscow is the ancient capital of Russia and the Russian state. Having ceded this status for two centuries to St. Petersburg, it returned it in 1918. And although it is customary to call Petersburg the cultural capital, Moscow is not inferior to it in the richness of cultural life. Opening

Library of Cinema Art. SM Eisenstein in Moscow was opened in 2008. The initiative belonged to Mayor Yury Mikhailovich Luzhkov. It became the first public library covering the history and traditions of the national cinema. The opening was timed to coincide with two jubilee dates: the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the national film production in Russia and the 110th anniversary of the birth of the remarkable film director Sergei Eisenstein.

The name of this amazing master was given to the library in the Caretan Series. A great contribution to its foundation was made by the well-known historian and publicist V.Ya. Wolf. He was the first and headed the Board of Trustees of the Library of Cinematography them. S. M. Eisenstein.

Developments

In 2008 the same year the building of the electronic cinema hall "Classic" was opened and the action "Present a book to the city" was held. About 10 thousand Russians took part in the action. In November 2009 the library was visited by the famous French couturier P. Cardin and an exhibition was held about the filming of the amazing film "War and Peace" directed by Sergei Bondarchuk on the novel of the same name by Lev Nikolaevich Tolstoy. In the current year of 2017, in the cinema library, the Borodino Panorama Museum presents books published in 1912 to the anniversary historic event - the 100th anniversary of the victory in the Patriotic War of 1812.

Foundations

The first materials of the collections of the Library of the Cinema Art. M. Eisenstein became the book of filmmakers from the fund of the Library of Cinematographers in Moscow, transferred to her in 2009 as part of the International Film Festival in Moscow. Now the collection of the library of cinematography totals hundreds of thousands of names of various materials: books, magazines, newspapers, postcards, newspaper clippings, booklets and posters.

Among the main ones can be called the funds of specialized and fiction related to the development of cinematography, scrapbooks and editing sheets, iconography and DVD. However, it is possible to use the journalistic and scientific literature free of charge only within the walls of the library.
