Conversational style of speech

Everyone speaks the same language, but they use it in different ways. Depending on what you need to express, what is at issue, that is, depending on the purposes of communication, it changes. It turns out that each of us uses not one, but as if several different languages. The construction of our speech is conditioned by the prevailing situation of communication. There can be an infinite number of them, but they usually consider typical communication situations, which are studied by the science of speech styles - stylistics. It distinguishes five basic functional styles: colloquial, official-business, journalistic, scientific, artistic. Each of them has its own characteristic features, which are manifested in the content of statements, as well as in linguistic design.

Thus, the colloquial style of speech is used in a conversation between individual, as a rule, familiar people in a relaxed, informal atmosphere and most often in oral form. The purpose of speech is communication. Ease and vagueness are features of this style.

  • The words are emotionally appraising: a diminutive and affectionate suffix is characteristic: rabbit, white, sweet; Or suffix of incomplete quality (-heat-, -owat-): broadish, bluish, etc.
  • Verbs of a perfect kind, having a prefix for and indicating the beginning of the action (started crying instead of crying).

Also, the colloquial style of speech is characterized by everyday, unpretentious subjects, low content of speech, use in the text is not so much of concepts as of representations. Conversational style of speech is also distinguished by the fact that it is based on dialogue - a chain of replicas. With direct (oral) communication, facial expressions, intonation, gestures and other additional methods of communication are of great importance . The law of economy of means of speech comes into force - hence the abundance of incomplete sentences. When using the spoken style in writing, all its features and characteristics remain.

Conversational style of speech (in the form of oral dialogical speech) is the only one among all the functional styles by which a person communicates from the very childhood that he uses, beginning with preschool age. This is the only functional style that does not need to be taught.
