Contraception for men: modern methods

In terms of reproduction, a man plays a very important role in the formation of the family. Over the past few decades, contraceptive methods have largely been designed for women. However, in recent years, male contraception has become increasingly popular, especially when the life partner is not ready to receive contraceptives or the health status does not allow her to do this.

Ways of protection for men are aimed at suppressing spermatogenesis, maturation of male sex gametes. Some methods of contraception prevent the entry of male gametes into female genital organs.

How to protect from unwanted pregnancy? So, to prevent an unwanted pregnancy can be through such methods of contraception for men: mechanical - the use of a condom; Behavioral - abstinence from ejaculation, interrupted sexual intercourse and, finally, surgical - vasectomy.

Contraception for men should be no less effective than women, these drugs should act very quickly, not have side effects, do not affect the potency and offspring. It should not be forgotten that such drugs or preparations should be readily available and cheap.

Contraception for men: a surgical method

The essence of the operation is to block the vas deferens. Before the operation, the doctor will make sure that the patient understands the consequences and meaning of the operation. The specialist should tell the patient that this method of contraception does not protect against HIV and STIs, so a condom should be used as an additional method of contraception. Vasectomy does not affect the potency. The operation to restore fertility does not always end successfully. It should also be noted that the operations for restoring fertility are quite expensive. Vasectomy is a fairly simple procedure that is performed under local anesthesia (takes about half an hour). However, there are also contraindications to this manipulation: inguinal hernia, diabetes mellitus.

To perform this operation, you can use three options:

- In the first variant, the seminal ducts are fixed, the operating site is infiltrated with a 1% solution of anesthetic (procaine). Above the semaproduct, the skin and the muscle layer are cut, the seed drill ligates (bandages) and crosses. The segments are cauterized.

- In the second version, the channels intersect without bandaging, undergo cauterization to a depth of one and a half centimeters. After that, the crossed ends are closed.

- In the third variant, the seminal ducts are subjected to punctures, and not to the incision. After anesthesia, a special ring clamp is applied to the seminal duct without opening the skin. After this, the skin and duct walls are cut, then the ducts are isolated and occlusion is performed.

Contraception for men: physical methods

Spermatogenesis can be blocked with ultrasound. A significant disadvantage of this method is that irreversible processes develop in tissues. The synthesis of male sex gametes is also adversely affected by heat. A rise in body temperature inhibits spermatogenesis.

Contraception for men, use of hormones

Bioactive compounds (hormones) inhibit the synthesis of luteotropic and follicle-stimulating hormones, activate the formation of intestesticular testosterone. Hormonal contraception can not be used for severe diabetes mellitus, hypertension, liver and kidney disease, for mental illnesses and malignant tumors, for oligozoospermia.

Contraception for men: an immunological method.

Research in this area is aimed at creating an anti- fertile vaccine, which would be highly effective and would not cause side effects.
