Construction of a log from logs

Wood is an environmentally friendly material characterized by high strength and thermal insulation qualities. Therefore, he was widely used in construction, including the construction of baths. Baths from otsilidrovannogo logs are popular today, because they have an attractive appearance and are not inferior to brick or foam concrete analogues.

Building material

As a building material round logs are used. At the stage of their processing, the wood sapwood is removed, that is, their most unstable part. The remaining layers have sufficient strength and are capable of withstanding severe loads. This, though, makes the material stronger, but at the same time reduces its longevity. Construction of saunas from round logs is carried out by special technology, and individual elements of the construction (logs) are connected by means of grooves or by the Norwegian system "spike-groove".

The use of high-quality logs will make the walls as level and durable as possible. However, they do not deform upon shrinkage. The material is usually used in conjunction with modern impregnations that protect it from fire and rot. They do not affect its appearance.

Modern technology allows you to build baths from round logs in the shortest possible time. In many respects it is a merit of qualitative preparation of logs which preliminary "adjust" under the required sizes. Logs of logs made of round logs are stronger than paired ones from ordinary timber or glued material. In addition, it can be built from almost any angle.

Advantages

Round log, prepared on a special woodworking machine, is an ideal building material. Its diameter varies in the range of 16-28 cm. The log has a number of advantages:

  • Good thermal insulation;
  • Attractive appearance;
  • No need for wall decoration;
  • The ability to "breathe";
  • Integrity;
  • Minimum discrepancy of linear parameters.

disadvantages

Calibrated logs have a number of disadvantages. Among the most significant are:

  • Loss of orientation of the log. Houses, saunas from round logs for their long-term operation it is important to build correctly, observing the basic rules. One of them is the correct arrangement of logs: the northern side should go under the facade, the southern side - under the inner walls. This rule is used by all experienced builders. Its observance can extend the period of operation of the bath to 100-150 years.
  • Remove protective layers. Removing the soft outer shell adversely affects the material, as it protects it from insects, rot and exposure to the environment. As a consequence, the remaining part of the log becomes less durable.

Selection of logs for the bath

The construction of a steam room is recommended to be made from coniferous tree species. This is due to their high density and resistance to changes in temperature and humidity in comparison with other rocks. Birch, for example, is categorically forbidden to use for this purpose, as it is highly prone to rot.

Pine is the most common material used to build a log from logs. A photo of a wooden steam room vividly confirms its attractive appearance. Pine is low cost, has a long and smooth trunk and can be processed.

During the purchase of logs are recommended to pay attention to:

  • Presence of blue spots on a cut - they should not be;
  • Cut surface - it must be solid;
  • An oskurennoe log - it should have a yellow shade (light or dark);
  • Core - it should be even and occupy 1/3 of the diameter of the log.

Plot of land

As well as at home, baths from logs can not be built on all sites. This is due to the fact that the pool can be located in the steam room, and for him the presence of groundwater at a high level is undesirable. The entrance to the bathhouse should be on the south side, since in winter, snow drifts are melting faster from this side.

An important role in choosing a suitable site is played by the storeys of a bath from a round log. Photo of a two-story bath proves that today it is quite possible to combine a bathhouse and a dacha in one building. The second floor of such a structure can be used as a room for spending the night, and the first one - directly for the steam room. It is proved that sleep is stronger in premises of environmentally friendly material, which is the tree.

Foundation

The depth of laying the foundation for a bath from a rounded log depends on the depth of freezing of the soil. Optimum option - a strip foundation, capable of withstanding heavy loads, which is very important for quite heavy logs.

A columnar foundation is also used . Its use is advisable when the steam room consists of a special frame of wooden beams, on which the shield panels are attached. This version of the bath is much easier, so you can use a less powerful foundation than the tape. It is important to note that such skeletons are rarely used and have not yet proved themselves from the best or the worst.

Log preparation

After pouring the trench and arranging the vapor insulation of the foundation, they begin to prepare the logs. Their ends must be stitched to a thickness equal to the upper diameter.

Factory rounded logs are relatively expensive, so often the material is prepared independently by using a plane. With this task, an experienced builder can cope. Handled logs are distinguished by an extended period of operation and resistance to external influences in comparison with the factory option. This is due to the fact that the plane is removed only sapwood, and the protective layer remains intact. Deviations from standard sizes should not exceed 3 centimeters, otherwise logs will not loosely fit on the walls of the bath.

Construction of log walls

Before work, you should inspect the purchased logs, choose the thickest and strongest ones that will serve as the first row. For this, you can use larch, which in the humid environment becomes stronger. But do not use this tree to build all the walls, because under the influence of high temperatures it emits a strong smell.

If the logs were machined on special machines, then they have a corresponding numbering. It will help you find the right items more quickly. After the logging has been completed, they are given a certain time to dry out. If you do not pause, then the formation of cracks and curvatures on logs in the future, which can disrupt the integrity of the design.

For the construction of floors and ceilings, saunas made of round logs use almost any type of tree, except larch and pine, as they release resin under the influence of high temperature. Optimal option - the use of aspen or linden, which have healing properties.

Wall Caulk

The walls of the bath from the rounded log are caulked inside and out immediately after they have dried. This is done in order to close the possible gaps, because of which the room will constantly lose heat.

To do this, use special tape seals that do not need a double caulk, in contrast to moss and pakli. They do not rot and have low hydroscopic properties. The caulking of the walls of the bath from round logs begins with the lower layers of the log, carefully working in the corners. The fiber is laid across the groove and clogged with a shovel. The procedure is performed around the perimeter of the room. It is impossible to conduct the caulking of separate walls.

Cost

How much will the bath cost from logs? The turn-key price on average is 150-200 thousand rubles. The bathhouse will be a great place to relax and spend time with friends.
