Coat of arms of Tyumen and Tyumen region. Symbolism and description

Official symbols of Tyumen and the Tyumen region can tell a lot about the history and features of the region. What animals are depicted on the arms of these administrative units? What do the heraldic symbols of the coat of arms and the flag of Tyumen and the region mean?

Coat of arms of Tyumen

Tyumen is the first Russian city in Siberia. According to the Trans-Ural tradition, the main heraldic figures are often animal-specific animals. In this case, the lot fell on the fox and beaver, which serve as shield holders.

The coat of arms of Tyumen is distinguished by a restrained color scheme and laconism of the image. Animals are black. They stand on their hind legs on both sides of the shield, with their front paws supporting it. The heads are turned in the direction of the shield, the scarlet tongues are sticking out. Beaver and fox stand on the trophy, which consists of drums, banners and halberds. Gold letters on the blue ribbon below wrote the motto "From this city begins."

The shield of the French heraldic form has an azure (blue) color. On it is a golden ship floating on the belt of silver waves. The vessel is depicted with a mast, weather vanes and a steering wheel. One weather vane is located on the bow of the vessel, the other is on the mast. At the head of the shield is a golden tower crown with five prongs.

Historical background and meaning

The modern coat of arms of Tyumen was approved in April 2005 by the decision of the City Duma. Its author is Alexander Grefenshtein. Since the time of the first coat of arms of Tyumen, his composition has changed periodically. The first version appeared in 1635. Then the coat of arms was attended by beaver and fox.

In 1785 a new version was created. The coat of arms of Tyumen was divided into two horizontal fields. In the upper field the emblem of the Tobolsk governorship was depicted. On a blue background there was a golden pyramid with red flags and halberds. In the lower field there was an image of a golden ship floating on silver waves.

The coat of arms, used at the present time, combines elements of historical coats of arms, which demonstrates the heraldic continuity. Animals that hold a shield, mainly emphasize the role of the city as a center of fur trade. In addition, the fox is a symbol of intelligence and discernment, and the beaver speaks of the diligence of local residents. Black color indicates caution, because animals act as defenders of the city.

Silvery waves symbolize the river Tura. The element of the historical coat of arms - the golden ship-bearer, as well as the motto on the blue ribbon, reported that it was from Tyumen that swimming began on the Siberian rivers and barter trade in these parts. The crown shows that the city is a subject of the Russian Federation.

Flag of the city

The flag of Tyumen was developed by Alexander Grefenstein on the basis of the city emblem. The proportions of the rectangular panel are 2: 3. The flag is divided into three horizontal bands, which differ in width.

The upper band is blue and is the largest. It contains the image of the vessel from the coat of arms of Tyumen. The other two bands are the same in size, the width of each is half the width of the upper band. In the middle there is a strip of white color, in the bottom part - blue.

The vessel is associated with the development of trade relations, so it is depicted in gold and symbolizes wealth and prosperity. The white band on the flag symbolizes purity and pacification. Strips of blue primarily symbolize the waters of the River Tours. In heraldry, this color usually means greatness, beauty and nobility.

Coat of Arms of Tyumen Region

The whole composition is placed on a silver shield of the French type. In the center there is a contour or outline of the Tyumen region. It is divided into three horizontal areas of white, blue and green colors. In the middle of the outline there is a circle. Its upper half represents the rising sun, the rays of which are within the outline. The lower part of the circle is represented by black and blue vertical stripes.

Outline of the region from different sides support two sables. They stand mirror to each other on their hind legs. One front paw, they hold the outline, the other - the golden crown. At the foot of the outline there is a yellow ribbon with the inscription: "Tyumen Region".

Abris, of course, shows the geographical features of the region, its borders. The rising sun symbolizes the path to prosperity. The black and blue stripes under it testify to the oil and gas reserves in the region, which will lead to prosperity. Sable are the main riches of the animal kingdom of Siberia, that's why they support the outline. The colors of the contour repeat the basic colors of the area flag.
