Clamp tap-off: types, characteristics, purpose

The organization of a home power grid is a very complex and responsible process. Most home masters prefer to use a self-supporting insulated wire for this task, a self-supporting insulated wire, which is designed for transmission and distribution of power up to 35 kW. At the same time one of the main tasks that arise in the organization of the power grid is a branch of power transmission lines. For these purposes, electrical experts recommend using jaw clamps. They guarantee a reliable and sealed connection and are easy to handle.

Wires and couplers

The power network, conditionally, includes two elements - trunk and branch cables. The first go directly from the source, act as the main transmitters of electricity. The tap wires are connected to the mains and bring electricity to the consumer located far from the center line.

The paved power lines must be not only durable, but also safe. Even at the stage of installation, it is important to create conditions that allow any component of the chain to be replaced at any time without any health risks, and to connect SIPS cables. For this purpose, the tapping clamps are designed.

Such an electrical installation fixture is a fiberglass reinforced plastic box in which there are two entrances. Inside the case there are gear clamps, which, when tightening the fastening bolt, punctures the cables and acts as a jumper.

Required requirements

For a reliable and durable connection of SIP cables, it is necessary that the junction clamps meet certain requirements. Their body should be made of fiber-reinforced plastic - for better insulation of parts.

The plastic used for manufacturing the reinforcement must be strong, resistant to mechanical stress. In addition, the branch terminal must be immune to sunlight, ultraviolet rays and heat radiation.

The valve body after connecting the wires must be perfectly sealed to prevent the penetration of moisture to the bridge. Oxidation of contacts can lead to a power failure or, worse, a short circuit.

Types of clamps

In the market you can find different models of the presented wiring fittings. All devices are divided into two large groups:

  1. Split clamps with simultaneous tightening of the bolt, when both the trunk cable and the branch are tightened with one screw.
  2. Fittings with separate piercing of wires.

The use of the elements of a particular group depends on the required reliability of the connection. We must not forget that there are different types of clamps that have their own peculiarities. For example, some of them can be dismantled, while others do not.

Principle of operation with branch terminals

Using wiring fittings, you can be sure that you can connect SIP cables without removing the insulation layer. This increases the reliability of the connection and the security of the connection, and also speeds up and simplifies the installation process itself.

Before carrying out all operations, disconnect the power supply of your home. The process of connection consists of several steps:

  1. Install the main wire in one of the holes of the piercing clamp.
  2. Pass the outgoing cable through the second opening of the valve.
  3. Tighten the upper retaining bolt until the thread on its head is broken.
  4. For reliability, secure the tap on the support surface.

In case you use clamps with separate fastening of the main and outgoing wires, each cable is punctured immediately after pulling through the hole. Free wire ends must be insulated by putting plastic caps on them.

Clips with simultaneous tightening

The branching SIP-armature with simultaneous tightening of bolts is designed to create bends from trunk lines with aluminum or copper wires. They provide a reliable and hermetic contact by piercing. Depending on the purpose, several types of reinforcement are distinguished.

The first of these is the tapping clamps intended for connecting street lighting and tapping from the mains of the input wires to the house (P616). Used to connect cables of small cross-section (1.5-2.5 mm 2 ) and vein trunk wires (cross-section of conductors from 5 to 150 mm 2 ). The second type is intended directly for the branch from the main entrance to the house. This clamp (645-P) is used to connect the central wires with a cross-sectional area from 6 to 150 mm2 with vein cables of a branch with a cross-sectional area from 4 to 35 mm 2 .

Features of clips with simultaneous tightening

A key feature of wiring fittings is the possibility of its dismantling, but their reuse is not allowed. This is due to the fact that the thread of the head of the tightening bolt is broken at the time of installation. The tightening bolt is most often made of a soft aluminum alloy. Another feature of the devices is the fact that mounting is possible even on a non-de-energized line. The insulation of the clips must be made of a thermally stable polymer material. Its tests are carried out by immersion in a tank with water and passing an electric current of 6 kW through it for 60 seconds.

Fittings with separate tightening bolt

In the armature with separate tightening, the piercing clamp fixes the main wire and the branch with individual bolts. Similar devices are used to create several taps from one point. The main representatives of this model range are clamps of the type P617, P14 and p619. All valve models are used to connect aluminum and copper isolated branches. Tightening of wires is also carried out with a bolt made of soft aluminum alloy with a tearing threaded head.

The isolation insulated clamp P617 provides a trunk-to-branch contact in various ways. To connect the central line there is a clamping notched plate, and for a branch connection is provided with a preliminary removal of insulation. In type P619, both cables are connected by jumper straps.

Other types of clamps

It is almost impossible to give a full description of the clamps of all types and types-too much variety. The device that deserves special attention is PC 481. It is intended for connecting electrical appliances, shorting and protective earthing of the mains, mounted at the beginning and end of the line for the entire lifetime.

Another notable type of SIP-armature is a clamp with simultaneous tightening of the P70 type. It is used for the branching of main electrical lines with a cross-section of veins from 25 to 150 mm 2 . The devices are designed for operation at temperatures up to -60 ° C.

The use of a tapping clip is necessary when carrying out a high-voltage line, connecting street lighting and for putting an electrical cable into the house. Their use makes it possible to increase the safety of installation and the durability of the generated power grid.
