Causes and symptoms of withdrawal syndrome

Cases of withdrawal symptoms are quite common in modern narcological practice. Often, this condition is called a "withdrawal syndrome", as violations in the work of the body arise against the cessation of the use of drugs or alcohol.

Description and causes of withdrawal syndrome

A similar condition is characterized by somato-neurological and psychosomatic disorders. As already mentioned, people with addiction to narcotic drugs (especially opiates) and alcohol suffer from the withdrawal syndrome. In smokers, such a disorder is also possible, but the symptoms in this case are less pronounced.

The fact is that drugs and spirits cause not only emotional, but also physical dependence. For many months and years, the body is so strongly accustomed to the receipt of such substances, which includes them in the metabolic processes. A sharp cessation of alcohol or other substances that caused addiction affects the work of not only the nervous system, but also other organs - this is the main cause of the withdrawal syndrome.

The withdrawal syndrome and its underlying symptoms

In fact, the signs of such a syndrome can be completely different - it all depends on the substance that caused the dependence, and the general state of the human body. They are divided into two main groups:

  • Symptoms of withdrawal symptoms can be associated with mental state. Often, the abolition of narcotic substances causes uncontrolled outbreaks of aggression, frequent changes of mood or, conversely, depression.
  • Since this condition is accompanied by strong disruptions in metabolism, somatic disorders also appear. In particular, there is a marked increase in heart rate, a sharp fluctuation in blood pressure. There are also severe pains, nausea, vomiting, migraines, breathing problems, excessive sweating, etc.

Many people are interested in the question of how long the abstinence syndrome lasts. In fact, this indicator is very individual and depends on the overall health of the patient, the "experience" of dependence, etc. The first symptoms appear after 6-48 hours after cancellation. And it can last from 3-4 days to 1-4 months.

It is worth noting that the withdrawal syndrome is an extremely difficult condition, which is the result of prolonged dependence. And treatment is necessary here. Yes, young people with good health sometimes manage to overcome dependence independently. But in most cases, the so-called "breaking" leads to the development of severe psychosis.

Treatment of withdrawal syndrome

A patient in a similar condition should be hospitalized. With alcohol dependence, intravenous intravenous injections of special solutions that purify the body of toxins and ethanol metabolism products. Cupping abstinence syndrome often involves the use of beta-blockers, because in a similar condition, the sympathetic system is hyperactive. In severe psychiatric disorders, tranquilizers (Diazepam) are used. When convulsions are prescribed anticonvulsants.

Such therapy allows a person to easily transfer the withdrawal syndrome, but it can not repair damaged organs and does not relieve dependence.
