A film with a complex overtones has a fairly straightforward plot, according to which the average network administrator lives by the devil on the cake in a normal apartment in a company with a red cat. Every day he gets to work in a full people train. He listens to music and likes to skate around the city on skateboard. He works in a small firm, like a lot in Moscow.

Nathanael, this is an unusual name for the hero, is practically not interested in life around him, spending all his time in the vast expanses of the Internet. The protagonist does not pay much attention to any of his colleagues, although he is in love with one of the collaborators. She constantly feeds him pies. But one day he meets an unusual girl named Nastya. She is a student at a technology college. Only there is one "but", because the heroine lives in distant Massachusetts. First, the correspondence of lovers begins as a non-binding communication, but eventually Nafanael realizes that there is undoubtedly a lot in common between them. After all, it was about this beauty he dreamed of, she represented in her dreams. And now the guy sincerely believes that in the whole universe he is understood only by herself.

Once Nastya informs him that she will soon be passing through the Siberian city of Biysk. Immediately Nathan throws all his affairs and work. He flies there. On the way, he finds himself in completely improbable adventures, gets acquainted with interesting people. As a result, the protagonist finds himself in an amazing and absolutely far from reality world, which is filled with peace, tranquility and the smell of heather. Here, all the benefits of modernity, including the Internet, are completely absent, but you can calmly and regularly talk, lie down among the fragrant herbs and quietly rustling high pines.

Nastya, he could not see there, but fell in love with the amazing smell of heather. Avoidance from vanity will significantly change the young man's outlook. After returning to Moscow, Nafanya will no longer be able to find out, because he will have his own opinion, principles and life position. The hero is hard to forget the favorite smell of heather.

And after recognition in love, Nathan is horrified to learn that he won a grant for free tuition at the University of Massachusetts and a prize of 20 thousand dollars. But at what price? And what should he do now? Remember the smell of heather and understand that all of his feelings - just a toy for researchers, and the ideal girl simply does not exist? Life is ruined and nothing can be changed?

The film "The smell of heather" really makes you feel empathy for the characters. Especially exciting is the moment when Nathan stands on the bridge and decides to commit suicide. And all the same, we unconsciously wait for the good end of the film, because it is impossible for the hero to be so unlucky. Sumburial emotions, contradictory actions, mixed aftertaste, not that disappointment, but hopeless ...
