Briton white: description and features of the breed

According to one of the legends, British ancestors appeared in Britain in the first century, when the Romans began to conquer the British lands. The main advantage of the British, who lived in those early years, was a dense short coat, which protected them from all kinds of insects and dampness. Officially, the breed was recognized only in the XIX century in the UK.

Appearance

Standards of appearance of the British were determined in 1982. An example is a stocky animal with a broad chest, a muscular body, strong rounded paws, and short wool, similar to plush. A special feature of the breed is the presence of a skin, rather large, folds near the head. The nose is small, straight, wide.

Developed chin. Cheeks are plump and massive. The ears are small, neat, in width and height of one size. Medium-sized, the thick tail is rounded at the tip. The eyes are round, their color depends on the type of color of the breed. The average weight of a cat is from 3 to 5 kg, a cat - from 5 to 7 kg.

Colors of the breed

There are several shades of the breed of these cats, which are divided into:

  • Smoky;
  • Shaded;
  • Tortoise shells;
  • Marble;
  • Bicolour;
  • Monochrome.

A real white Briton has a cold, pure white tone of hair without inclusions of yellowness.

The skin is tender, light pink in color. The eyes can be blue, orange or different colors.

Character

Cats are wary of strangers and will not allow themselves to pat any person. By nature, the British are like aristocrats and behave with dignity. By nature, reserved, balanced, calm, self-sufficient. Do not require much attention, do not like abundant caresses. The British is white, like all representatives of this breed, very clean. Sometimes they are called "cats of business people", because they easily and calmly endure a long absence of owners and always gladly meet them. They are very fond of all family members and are attached to them.

We can say that they are smart animals, they do not spoil furniture, do not hang on curtains, do not climb tables, do not get underfoot, but the unobtrusive Briton will always be near you. Absolutely do not show any aggression. Are obedient and easily amenable to education. Never poke in the wrong place, they will sit and wait until they open the way to the tray. If you suddenly forget to remove meat or other products, do not worry, the Briton will not touch them, but will sit at his bowl and wait.

The British cat is white in character - cold-blooded, like an Englishman, and cats are very shy. In unforeseen situations they behave quite calmly.

Health

All Britons have excellent physical and mental health. Despite the fact that cats have good immunity, they should be protected from any drafts so that they do not catch cold. Of the diseases most commonly found is conjunctivitis. Veterinarians are prescribed drops or ointments for treatment. Prevention of the disease is a constant wet cleaning of the room.

Care for the British

From the very childhood, kittens need to be accustomed to hygienic procedures (grooming). Regularly inspect the teeth, ears, eyes and take care of the animal's fur.

In the morning time in the corners of the eyes can appear a touch of dark color. It is easily removed with a cloth moistened with water.

The wool gets into the cat's stomach and settles in the form of lumps. In order to avoid blockage of the intestinal passages, from 7 months of the British should be accustomed to a special paste, which contributes to the dissolution of the wool.

Care of the coat is simple:

  • Wash your pet no more than 2-4 times a year with a special shampoo, dry the hair with a hairdryer;
  • Once a week, very carefully combing, without traumatizing the undercoat, removing dead hairs, it is best to use massage rubber brushes;
  • During moulting, instead of combing, you should use a damp hand to wool;
  • A cat loves stroking against the growth of wool.

Ears must be kept clean. If there are excreta, they are removed with a wet swab. On the tips of the ears, the British grow hairs, they are removed with scissors. Claws are inspected and sheared once every two to three weeks. Every six months, worms should be prevented with special preparations.

Binding

Full sexual maturity occurs in the female at the age of one year. Sometimes a cat starts to knit in 10 months, but in this case complications are possible and there is a risk of miscarriage, which lasts from 60 to 70 days. Born from 1 to 8 kittens, depending on the genotype of the cat, childbirth takes place easily.

Description of kittens

Newborn white British kittens sometimes have a color stain that disappears after the first year. This is not a flaw and for this breed is acceptable. Cats are caring mothers and spend all the time with kittens. After a week, eyes are opened. Starting from the third week, kittens can be started to be fed with liquid food. Little Britons quickly become tight. Grow up slowly. Female individuals reach their heyday by five years. They live up to 20 years.

Little kittens are very similar to plush toy-cubs, energetic from birth. Difference from other breeds:

  • The kitten has a strong body, a broad chest and strong paws;
  • Round head, chubby cheeks, rounded straight ears, round eyes of swampy or bluish-gray color, to one-year age the shade of the eyes changes;
  • The tail is dense, plump and rounded at the tip;
  • Thick wool of equal length about 2 cm.

In order to determine the gender of the kitten, it must be put on the back and feel the place under the tail.

Color kittens are different, the most common are monochrome colors: black, red, cream, blue, purple and white. In adult cats, having such colors, eyes of an amber or orange hue. And only a white Briton (photo below) can have a multi-colored eye color.

At the age of two to four months, the kittens are very naughty and can be hooliganized.

Real Britons

Wanting to acquire a British kitten, future owners are always interested in the shape of his ears, what they are: hang or stand straight.

The parents of the British kitten must be purebred Britons, and their ears stand straight. There is no breed that is called white Fold or other color.

Kittens with saggy ears belong entirely to another breed of cats, called Scottish Scottish Straight and has two types: the prickly and the lop-eared.

The line of Fold Scottish cats began in 1961, when one of them had a mutation, and ears spontaneously hung. The owner began to apply methods of breeding and crossed it with ordinary cats. As a result, there were born as lop-eared, and pryamouhie kittens. After a long selection, Scottish cats got the current look.

From the British outwardly, they differ in size and shape of the trunk, the length of the tail and paws, a kind of ears close to the head, the tips of which are tilted forward and down. After mating a British female and a Scottish male with straight ears, the kitten is considered a Scottish breed.

British white

The first feature of cats of this breed is the immaculate color of the skin. Wool uniform color throughout the body of the pet. Secondly, only white British have eyes of different colors:

  • Orange-rusty shade.
  • It is rare to see cats with blue eyes. This color of eyes is considered a defect. Holders of such eyes do not participate in the breeding of offspring for the preservation of the breed. However, a white Briton with blue eyes is very popular among breeders.
  • Both eyes are of different colors. One is blue and the other is red. There is a belief that cats with such eyes bring good luck. They are also called "royal".

Care for a white British is the same as for pets of another color. It is periodically washed with special shampoos and combed.

But they are very whimsical in eating. For dinner they should serve diced and lightly scalded raw meat.

In some sources, there is an opinion that it is impossible for British to have the same white color. The reason is that the risk of the birth of deaf progeny increases. Other sources disprove these conclusions. The British white is a rare color of a wool of the given breed.

Scientific studies show that with blue eyes a white Briton is often hard of hearing. And some argue that the sight of cats depends on the color of the coat. And her white color suggests that the cat is hard of hearing. In fact, this is far from the case. Even a cat with blue eyes is not always deaf. In the event that pets have a different eye color and one of them is blue, the likelihood that it will be deaf is high. Although there are exceptions, a white Briton with blue round eyes can hear.

How to choose a kitten?

When choosing a pet, you should familiarize yourself with the conditions in which the kitten was and was growing. And also pay attention to the appearance.

A healthy cat has a shiny coat, a wet nose, an openly playful and naive look. The kitten should smell like milk.

Cost of kittens

In specialized nurseries a fairly large selection of Britons. The cost of a kitten depends on its color and class:

  1. Show. Elite kittens of this class are a sample of the British breed. Their cost starts from 40 thousand rubles.
  2. Brid. Kittens of this class have subtle flaws. Basically, they are bought as future producers of the offspring, as with a properly matched pair, kittens of the highest class may well turn out. The price starts from 22 thousand rubles.
  3. Pet. The British of this class have significant shortcomings and do not meet the requirements of the breed standard, although these are very beautiful kittens. They are bought as pets and as a kind friend. The cost is from 6 thousand rubles.

In the range of 3 to 5 thousand rubles you can buy a pet without a pedigree.

All pets, and especially the British white, love their owners and especially need reciprocal feelings.
