Body language - the importance of gestures in oratory

Any speaker knows that for effective speech it is necessary to try to win the interest of listeners from the first minutes. A positive role in the success of speech plays a positive first impression, which is formed about the speaker. It, in turn, depends on the appearance, posture, voice, intonation, self-confidence and sincerity.

A person is so arranged that, through a visual channel, he takes up to 60% of all new information. That is, most of the new information comes to be processed into our brain through the eyes. About a third of all data is perceived through the auditory canal and only 10% by words. That is why any speaker should necessarily learn the language of gestures and body movements and apply their knowledge to every speech.

The speaker can have a presentable appearance, sincerely believe in what he says. He can memorize speech and not look in the paper, and look at the presentation directly in the eyes of his listeners. But if the speaker ignores the body language and behaves like a "staunch tin soldier", then his perception will be reduced by listeners by several times, since in this case the information will not be backed up by visual images.

Therefore, the body language is the # 1 task, if you have a goal to master the art of the speaker. The main emphasis in this case should be made on the study of gestures, since after the face it is the hands that are the most visually expressive parts of our body. Let's consider some recommendations that allow you to quickly master these skills.

1. Choose 1-2 popular speakers (politicians, TV hosts) and carefully watch on any video for their gestures

Try to highlight those gestures that they use most often. Pay attention to how the body language influences your perception of what these people are saying. What causes trust in their behavior and why are they interesting to listen to? Of course, it's much easier to master the gestures on live trainings, but visiting them is not always possible and time, so we use for training what is at hand - our TV or dvd player.

2. There are not many views. Learn gestures in practice

Now try to tell a story in front of a mirror, using the maximum number of different gestures. At the same time, you need to connect your imagination and imagine how you can show your thoughts with the help of this or that gesture.

3. In order to liberate your body language, exercise at an accelerated pace, doing everything exaggeratedly

Do not worry that in your future performances you will become like a windmill. After achieving freedom and naturalness in the movements, gestures will become familiar and expressive.

4. Your gestures should be different

The more there are different gestures in your arsenal, the easier it will be to communicate with a large and complex audience. In this case, it will be easier to establish good contact and reach the listeners' understanding.

5. With the help of gestures it is convenient to manage when answering questions

The hand can and should be shown on the one who will now ask. In case there are several questions, we first give an answer to the one that you liked most, and then to the others.

We recommend reading the book "The New Language of Bodies". This new book by Alan Pease and Barbara Pease will allow us to thoroughly study the body language, distinguish between sincerity and deception, make the right decisions and, of course, simply understand the people that always mattered in our volatile world.

We wish you to develop your oratorical talents creatively, with positive, love and pleasure! Then it will undoubtedly benefit everyone.
