Basalt cardboard: different from others

Modern building materials are quite diverse, which makes it possible to embody the most daring design ideas. Not the last place among them is the basalt cardboard, the characteristics of which have long given him popularity.

What is so attractive about this material? Judge for yourself.

A basaltic board made of superfine fiber is made, to which special binding elements are added. During production, the methods of vacuum pressing and subsequent drying are used.

There are several varieties of this material:

  • Basalt cardboard foil;
  • Without a cachet;
  • With a reinforcing glass net.

All of them can be used for different purposes. But most often basalt cardboard is used for thermal insulation of buildings, pipelines, stoves and fireplaces. It is also good as a fire retardant coating for household and industrial equipment. It is not uncommon for a given material to be used to increase the fire resistance of metal structures. By its technical characteristics, it is much ahead of the once-in-fashion asbestos cardboard, which is now banned for use because of increased carcinogenicity.

Remarkable and the fact that it can be used at temperatures from -200 to + 900 o C.

But not only for this, true masters appreciate basalt cardboard. It has a lot of advantages in comparison with other materials:

  • Environmental Safety. This cardboard does not contain or emit any harmful substances. That is why its use is allowed in areas requiring strict environmental control, such as: pharmaceuticals, food industry, microbiology.
  • High heat resistance and incombustibility. Melt this material will begin only at a temperature of 1000 degrees.
  • Low hygroscopicity (the ability to absorb moisture from the air), which does not change throughout the life of the product.
  • Vibration resistance. Only the unique structure of this material is capable of withstanding high fluctuations even in high temperature conditions.
  • Strength. Basalt board is not destroyed when temperature changes.
  • Ease of installation. This material is easily cut into molds, glued with an inorganic adhesive.
  • Resistant to damage by microorganisms, fungus or to rodents.
  • Basalt board provides additional sound and thermal insulation.
  • Long service life. Specialists say that in the absence of mechanical damage, it retains operational properties up to 50 years.

Ease of installation is one of those qualities that allow the use of basalt cardboard in many repair and construction works. Here the most important thing is to observe the correct sequence and take into account some details:

  1. First you need to prepare the surface.
  2. The second stage can be called cutting the material.
  3. Next, take care of the adhesive composition.
  4. Now you can start the main occupation - isolation.
  5. If necessary, joints should be glued with aluminum tape.

Thus, this modern material will help solve many of your problems related to construction.
